Friendly AWACS Identifying Me As Hostile
-
Hello
Created a new TE today, which included USA package consisting of three elements 2 x F16CM-50 and 1 x Tornado ECR G, I tuned the AWACS UHF frequency and it was identifying me??? as hostile also had tuned the correct VHF intraflight frequency.
I wasn’t shot down either from friendly aircraft or SAMS, however the message was persistent (following me at different flight levels and headings),
Friendly aircraft appeared yellow/green on FCR when performing scan, no enemy aircraft in the TE.
EDIT:
Reading (again) 1.5.4 Data Link Initialisation via the UFC and 1.5.5 Air-to-Air Intraflight Data Link
First time I set a multiple element package up, I forgot to setup the intraflight addresses.DB

I’ll let someone who’s in the know reply with certainty, but I have had someone report to me this morning that in a campaign, AWACS called out contacts as friendly while they were actually hostile MiG-21’s. If it weren’t for his own curiousity to see which aircraft they were, and using his TGP to get a PID, he would most likely have been caught very off-guard when the MiG-21’s began their engagement.
Unfortunately, that report is unsuitable, as it happened in Balkans, but perhaps it’s a feature now that AWACS isn’t always 100% correct anymore, and may from time to time misidentify a contact?

Hello,
- AWACS isn’t always 100% correct
- In KTO Campaign “Double Dragon” you’re fighting side by side with DPRK forces
- In BALKANS your ally Croatia has MiG-21 aircraft
Cheers,
Nick -
If you have a KTO TE file to provide, we can take a look just to be sure.
