Strange problem with ANT ELEV and MAN RNG potentiometers
-
Guys,
I have noticed some strange bug recently. Both MAN RNG and ANT ELEV started to worked incorectly. First, I have noticed that TGP in one position is jumping - it turns out that MAN RNG axis works like this:0 > values getting bigger > 65535 > some random values!
OK, I thought that pot got dirty so I cleaned it with spray. After reconnecting Cougar I have noticed that cleaning did not help at all, but both ANT ELEV and MAN RNG use only 50%-75% (hard to tell really) of their ranges. I checked deadzones and they are set to default ones (5/7/5%). I tried to reflash Cougar, manual calibrate it, but no luck. Have you had similiar problem?
I haven’t checked them with multimeter yet, but I am going to do so…

OK, the pot is dirty or something, I am getting following values with multimeter:
0 Ohm (minimum) > ~3.65 Ohm (center) > ~8 Ohm > ~5 Ohm > ~9.8 Ohm (maximum)
So the software is OK. Since I have no replacement for that I have to try to open it and clean the carbon path manually. The problem is I do not know how to remove the cap/knob from the potentiometer. Do you know how do it? Is it glued?

I had a Cougar TQS that was doing all sorts of strange things - I changed out the ANT ELEV pot and that fixed everything. Turns out the ANT ELEV pot and a few other switches/pots in the throttle share a ground, and a dirty/shot ANT ELEV pot can cause all sorts of issues over that ground.
I was not able to remove the ELEV wheel without destroying the OEM pot (which are hard to find these days). Whatever that red stuff they use to glue the knobs on with is tenacious!

BorutBorut,
that’s very possible, but I have a problem with that part:WOW!!! I could not believe what I was seeing. Maybe a trip to the eye doctor was in order. So, I took the ANT pot out of the throttle handle and disassembled the pot.
It is glued or something…
Stevie,
true and I don’t want to damage/destroy especially that pot! -
Yeah - I have no idea what that red glue is, but it’s about permanent. I was going to try and clean mine, but I didn’t hesitate to mangle it as I had a ready replacement on my desk - trying to pull the EL wheel off pulled the post right out of the pot! I made sure I just pressed it onto the new pot - won’t be having that problem again…
