VHF Comms Malfunction at approx. takeoff
-
I’m having an issue with my VHF comms in multi-player. It seems that during the comms check (using F1 and F2 in 2D map prior to entering pit) everything is fine. Once we get into pit, for the first ~20 mins (during the start), comms checks on VHF (generally 15) work fine.
During, or shortly after takeoff, I lose all ability to communicate (in or out) on VHF.
UHF continues to work fine.
Any ideas what might be going on, or what I can do to fix it?

First thing to try is cycle the comms by rotating the volume control to off then back to preferred setting.

Hi!
… Once we get into pit, for the first ~20 mins (during the start), comms checks on VHF (generally 15) work fine. ?
…
Stop talking about “channel” please. We don’t care about channels, at all.
Did you checked the frequency used with all your team mates while unable to communicate on the VHF? (I am not speaking about Channel, I am speaking about frequency = xxx.xxx Mhz)
Remember: Chanel don’t matter! … what matter are frequencies. You can check during hours that everybody are on “CH15”, if the “CH15” is not set on the same frequency for everybody (and DO NOT just assume that it is the case just because nobody is supposed to have changed it) … it won’t work.

Define We please?
BMS at least makes extensive use of preset as per the comms plan
Saying that we Don’t care about preset is a bit weird if the comms plan constantly refers to preset.Plus we know these presets works, so why do you want to concentrate on someting that is 99% not the issue in the OP question?
The guy says it works for about 15-20 minutes, then it doesn’t anymore
So preset or frequency won’t change anything. the important aspect is that at a certain point, it stops working.A better question to the OP might be:
Who are you trying to communicate with?
An AI or a human? -
Red Dog … whe you are troubleshooting a comm’s issue, what you have to check is not the preset number (channel) but the frequency programed on the preset.
Doesn’t makes sens?
i.e.
Leader: CH15 displayed on ICP => behind: CH15: 130.450
Wingman : CH15 displayed on ICP => behind: CH: 143:800Conversation on UFH:
“… Hey mate, I’m on VHF CH15! Don’t you read me?”
“… mmm … me too! … nope I don’t read you. And you, do you read me on VHF?”
“… Neither. … Damn! … one of our radio is broken?!”… nope, you radios are both probably fine. Check your freq assigned to your respective “CH15”.
The guy says it works for about 15-20 minutes, then it doesn’t anymore
And so what? … is it impossible that somebody changed accidentally its preset in flight? …
When troubleshooting failures (or a bug) one have to be rational, before going into conclusions.
Who are you trying to communicate with?
An AI or a human? That is also a good question … but once we know that freq has been checked and confirmed to be the right one (comm plan in case of AIs).

Thank you for your quick responses. I’ll attempt to answer your questions:
1. For Channel/Frequency, it does not matter. The frequencies are the same (checked in the comms check when starting the jet when the comms works, and again to make sure in the air that the freqs are the same). We have even tried different frequencies, input manually on both my jet and my lead’s jet, to make sure it’s not just a Channel–>Frequency issue.
2. I have tried cycling the radio on/off using the volume knob. Verified by seeing “OFF” on the display beside VHF radio readout.
3. I am trying to communicate with humans, in multiplayer. IVC confirmed functional in 2D, and again, with lead during startup on comms check.
Thank you,

Ok , “1” is what we had to know. So since you are 100% sure that something is wrong, next step is to find a repro case.
-
Dee-Jay,
I’m sorry, I don’t understand “repro case”.
Can you elaborate?

My fault … sorry.
“Repro case” is a term used by Beta testers and coders to desribe a way to reproduce the issue by anyone.

Gotcha!
OK, we’ll keep trying and see if there is something that we can do to make it happen. Do you have any ideas of what we can be looking for? I’m pretty ignorant as to how the code actually works. Would we think this is an IVC issue, or a game issue?
Also, what information might you require? The came does not crash, so there is no crash log, per se. What else can we get for you that might be useful?
Thoughts?

Distance from your team mates (?)

Perfect!
Even I should be able to do that.
Thanks Dee-Jay, we’ll be in touch if we can make it consistent.
Cheers,
