Warthog flight stick and base with Cougar throttle
-
HI
First post here, and I was wondering if you could replace the flight stick and base of the warthog, with the cougar flightstick and base? The inner workings of my cougar flightstick base has broken, (part of the gimbal system that holds the flightstick) and so I was curious if anyone had success with that setup. I did a search and found that people were replacing the stick only but not the base, so I don’t think I’m repeating a thread. I apologize if I’am.
If it can be done, do you have to use the target software instead of foxy. Also would it be of better interest for me to go with the FSSB R1 or R2. Judging by the threads I have read the FSSB system seems pretty solid. I’m more curious in how hard it is to adjust once they’re installed. I like both ideas, but would like to know what success rates people have had.
Thanks in advance…Larry -

Thanks in advance…LarryIf what you are asking is can you use your Warthog Stick and Cougar throttle then the answer is Yes. It’s what I use as my Warthog stick is more precise than my Cougar. Unless you use a TUSBA (From Real Simulation http://realsimulator.com/html/tusba.html ) you will need to keep your Cougar base plugged in so the throttle is connected. In BMS you will then need to assign the primary flight control axis to use the Warthog stick. Job done and enjoy your flying.

Thanks for the reply Tiff. What I’m interested in is replacing the warthog stick attached to its base with the cougar stick and base. I’ve seen where people are replacing the stick only, but I want the whole unit. In addition I want to continue to use the cougar throttle.

Just a couple of questions.
1/ Your Courage stick is broken?
2/ You want to use the warthog stick and base in stead of the Cougar Stick?
If the answer to both these is yes then re-read my post above.
If your throttle isn’t working through the Cougar base (and from what I understand from your first post this isn’t an issue) then you’ll need something like the TUSBA otherwise just have both the Cougar and Warthog plugged in and use the stick you want with the throttle.

Thanks again Tiffy. My cougar stick is not broken. It’s the gimbal mechanism inside the base. Metal fatigue has caused a piece of metal to break off (it keeps the right side of the joystick in position for side to side movement) so it’s either tear out that mechanism and replace with FSSB 1 or 2 or replace the whole joystick unit. I like the warthog joystick so I was thinking of going with that. Now that you’ve mentioned the TUSBA I’m assuming you could then plug in each unit separately and have them work independent of each other.
My concern is what kind of software would be compatible for this arrangement. I’m guessing that I’d have to go with the target software but I’m not really sure. Anyway I appreciate your help. -
If you leave your cougar throttle connected to the cougar stick and add a warthog stick then you can use Target to program them. If you use a TUSBA then the throttle is no longer seen by Target as a Thrustmaster bit of kit and you can’t program it. However as I said I use a Warthog stick and Cougar throttle and have them setup as pure DX controllers, editing the keyfile to assign the correct functions to each key etc. No harder to do than make a profile in Target or Foxy really.

That’s what I thought Tiffy. I’m not much on the programming or editing thing, but willing to take the time to learn. I’ve got the basics of foxy down, but it took a long time to learn. Not sure on editing the keyfile, but certainly may give it a try if I go this route. Still thinking on it, may go the FSSB route, since that only requires mechanical alterations. I’d have to take the gimbal unit out anyway if I were to install the FSSB, plus the price of a new stick vs FSSB are about the same. Sure appreciate your help seeing as your the only one that has assisted me so far. Thanks again for your wisdom.
