X-65 no longer recognised
-
Good Day, All,
I moved this week , so I was afk for a few days. When I went to set my pc back up, I found my Saitek x-65 no longer works. It lights up , but neither the axis’ or buttons function.
To this point I have downloaded the drivers and software, and have tried to set it up several times.
Symptoms- when you get to the last page of set up, where it says to plug it in and hit next, next is greyed out.
The profiler icon on my desktop has disappeared
the Win 10 device page lists the stick but says “driver error”
Driver Easy,on the other hand, says the drivers are up to date.
I’ve tried restarting the pc several times, with the -65 plugged and unplugged, then plugged in, no effect.
I’m hoping someone has a tip as to what to try next. -
Try completely removing the driver for the stick : https://www.digitalcitizen.life/completely-remove-faulty-drivers-windows
Then, restart, plug it in, and see if it is recognized by windows by right clicking on the start menu button / execute / “joy.cpl” → hit enter.
There you see the list of all the game controllers connected to your computer. By double clicking on it, you can check the axis and the buttons. Then, reinstall the driver properly.
I wouldn’t trust software like driver easy for specific devices like this. That software would only be good for really mainstream products like graphic cards and network cards.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thx for the reply, Flow.
I removed the device as per your link, and the x-65 no longer shows up in Device Manager, nor does it show up when I enter joy.cpl ( though the rudders and my xbox 360 do).
However, when I go to download the drivers, it’s as before. The “next” on the plug-the-stick in page is greyed out
Is there a way to determine if the stick itself is dead, or if there’s some software issue? -
I would try three things in that situation :
- different USB ports
- a powered USB hub, maybe your computer is not giving it enough juice for some reason
- another computer
If all three fail, there is a big chance the issue is the stick…

Thanks, Flow. I think your last comment was it. This stick is 10 years old, at least. I think it’s FUBAR. The good news is it’s given me the excuse to get a Warthog.
