TrackIR "freezes"
-
Currently using TrackIR4 (with latest TrackIR5 software).
Problem occurs normally during dogfights where I move my head to follow the bandit. At some points - normally from 6 o’clock then slowly following the bogey to about 7 or 8 o’clock and slightly high, my view seems to “freeze” - even if I move my head it doesn’t follow, but the sim continues as usual. That causes me to lose sight of the bandit. After about maybe 2 or 3 seconds or if I ‘flick’ my head quite a bit then TrackIR “wakes up” and follows my head again.Any idea how to overcome this?
Cheers!

If you can view the camera image with the LEDs check if any of the LEDs might get obscured by the others or parts of the clip.
Also, try to install other head tracking software like FTNoIR or opentrack to see if it’s a software issue. Both are compatible with your clip model
Cheers, Uwe

Can you move the camera further away from you?
-
Yeah, you guys are right. My camera is about 2.5ft away from my head, and now I noticed that the green LED goes off when my head is tilted upward past a certain angle.
Tried positioning the camera further, but the most I can move it away is total of about 3ft, does not help much.
Is there any way of making the camera sense “wider angle”? -
On My side I have build my Head tracker myself and use wide angle ir diodes with ±80° angle.
Clip is pointing nearly perpendicular to the camera and I still get a valid track in opentrack at a distance of 0.6m/2ft.
And the whole tracking system was build for 10€. To be honest I wouldn’t spend a cent for a “real” TrackIR

Is there any way of making the camera sense “wider angle”?Unfortunately the TIR4 hardware is only 46 degrees FOV, to make it wider you need to retrofit it with a TIR5 to benefit from it’s 51.7 degrees FOV
Edit - one other thing you might try - if the TIR camera is in the centre of your screen and you are using the deers antlers, try offsetting the camera by about 9 inches to the left (towards the antlers).
