Alternative to free track?

Just try opentrack. You could even combine it with edtracker2.

I have freetrack and find that it works a charm, just like Track IR. No problems.

May you post your settings?

See below. Just keep in mind what works for me might not work for you as it’s all about user preference. I don’t use any curves or deadzones, I just have rotation disabled. I also use a Microsoft VX1000 webcam and found that changing the resolution to 640 x 480 made things more stable. Also i’m using a homemade 3 point clip. It’s important to get all the measurements of your clip entered correctly into the software.

Ok thank you!

I used to use freetrack solely, however with my current system,
for some unknown reason, suddenly it stops working, it won’t work anymore. So I switch to pointtracker, here:
http://sourceforge.net/p/facetracknoir/wiki/PointTracker/it use the same hardware as freetrack so you don’t have to build a new one.
and it is more friendly with today’s computer, I have no error with it. -
Why use point tracker when it seems FacetrackNoIR have incorporated the Freetrack protocol into their software?
-
if you want to use curves - generally speaking you want them to look like a horizontal inverted ‘S’ this means they are stable and easily controlled when looking forwards, but give you relatively high sensitivity to look out to the sides without having to turn your head too much.

I just downloaded FaceTrackNoIR to try the Pointtracker with my Freetrack clip. Worked well without a problem. Controls/settings seem a little more simplfied (perhaps more user friendly) than Freetrack. Miss the 3d skull that shows translation in Freetrack though. The video widget in FaceTrackNoIR isn’t as useful. I had to play around the curves a bit (make them steeper) to make it more responsive, still doesn’t seem quite as snappily responsive as Freetrack. I do like how FaceTrackNoIR models pitch (look up) movement restrictions that are anatomically correct. This is missing from Freetrack.

from my experience, you should have very fast and powerful system to use FacetrackNoIR flawlessly.
on my system: i3 2,9ghz, it is too choppy and unplayable for my taste.on the other hand, pointtracker use far less resources,
so it run a lot smoother on my system.you can try it for yourself.
to make it more responsive, you can move the smoothing slider all to the left (=0),
that is the setting I use.
