HOTAS Cougar computer interface
-
G’day. Got a bit of a long shot request here.
Ive dug out my old Cougar and plugged it in. Its settings are a bit skew-if. Thats a minor issue, normally, as you just change its settings using CCP. Well. Mine has the minor problem that it loses those settings every reboot. And that, combined with the fact Im no longer running windows, and cant use the CCP, presents a major problem, as far as fixing settings goes.
Im wondering if anyone can help. The three avenues Id identified were figuring out how to communicate with the Cougar, figuring out how to run the CCP on my machine, or bypassing both of them.
The first avenue, I can get started with if anyone can provide information/documentation on the Cougar’s interface - how does the computer send it information, what does it expect? I know theres one or two old hands around who’ve had significant contact with the development of the Cougar, and that information could prove very useful.
Barring that, the second avenue would be an appeal to the knowledge of our small linux community. Has anyone gotten the CCP to run successfully and talking to a Cougar without running on Windows (preferable, without bricking the Cougar either)? If so, Id love the details.
The final option, bypassing both other avenues, is the nuclear option. That is, ripping the guts out of the Cougar, installing an Arduino, wiring it and programming it as I see fit. It would be a bit of a project, and rather time consuming. Im also starting to worry that it might be the quickest route to getting my Cougar going again…
EDIT: Per this last option, anyone able to offer insight into the Cougar’s implementation of the PS/2 interface would be most appreciated if they were to offer input on this topic.
Any advice or input is welcomed. Cheers.

I would suggest finding a Windows PC that you can run the CCP, and just reprogram it with the settings you want. They should stay at that point when moved back to your current rig. I know when I pulled my Cougar back out of the box after 9 years of sitting it still had the programming I used for Falcon 4.0 active in it
