Flickering screen
-
Ever since switching to my new PC, I sometimes have the issue that I get very bad screen flickering - like the screen is flickering between BMS and black. It makes me just exit the game as I get a real headache from it if I look at it too long.
I am using the same monitor (LG 27GL850 27" S-IPS 2560x1440@144hz) as I did with my old PC, and the same version of BMS (4.34.4), so that can’t be it. I also switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (finally) so that could be a factor too.
New PC config:
Ryzen 7 3800X (PBO off)
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite WiFi
G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600Mhz CL16 2x16GB (XMP enabled)
ASUS RTX 2070 Super
(I don’t think that storage or CPU cooling is a factor here so I’ll skip those details for now?)
Windows 10 Home x64 1909 build 18363.900
Nvidia driver 445.87Running Windows 10 and BMS at 2560x1440 (windowed mode).
Nvidia panel 3d settings:
Anisotropic filtering 16x
FXAA off
Antialiasing 8x
Prefer maximum performance
Highest Available refresh rate
VSync is off
G-Sync enabled for full screen and windowed modeFalcon BMS settings:
2560x1440x120Hz
Mutlisampling off
Vertical Sync off
Anisotropic filtering off
Midmapping on
Linear mipmap filtering on
Texel bias fix on
Textured TV/IR on
Object detail 7
HDR Bloom and Blur as standard
Trees and grass as standard
Season summerIs this a known issue?
I don’t have this with any other game - DCS, Arma3, rFactor 2, PUBG etc so it must be something with BMS?
I also never had this problem on my old i7 3770 with a GTX 1070 under Windows 7 and BMS 4.34.4 so I’m not entirely sure what the issue is here.

Only thing that comes directly to mind would be the game settings not matching the Windows settings…… 120Hz on a 144Hz monitor? (assuming you have Display Settings on Windows set to the refresh rate of your monitor, 144Hz).
Never let a game override this rate if possible – always use native monitor refresh rate. Ensure this is also set correctly in Nvidia Control Panel under Display Settings - I see you noted it is already set in Global 3D Graphics Settings to Highest Available… (edit: were this set to ‘Application Controlled’, I wonder if the issue would have been noticed, or even exist)
Bring up the in-game settings to 2560x1440x144Hz
*dang, we have very similar systems
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X - ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (WiFi) - 32GB DDR4 @3600MHz CL16 - ASUS ROG STRIX 2070 Super (OC @2100MHz) - ASUS VG248QE 1920x1080@144Hz -
Well that’s the weird thing, BMS doesn’t give me a 144Hz option?
Is that something I need to edit manually in a config file or so? -

↑ 100% this…

I’ve done all that , deleted the dx9display.dsp file, restarted BMS……and it’s only giving me again the 120Hz option? Not sure if that’s actually causing the issue though.

Very odd indeed… you should have a large list of resolutions and refresh rates - not sure how this list is populated, if it’s from GFX drivers that put info into Windows, and then BMS reads that… scratching my head for sure…
Should see something like this:
-
I’ve found it! Logic dictates that, in order of resolution and refresh rate, you’d think it would be on the bottom of the 2560x1440 resolutions…. ah no. It’s the FIRST refresh rate for that resolution and then followed by 59Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz … which is why I didn’t see it as I kept scrolling to the bottom of the list!

I had a feeling it was something like that… hence the red arrow… never want to assume. Glad you got it sorted!! Cheers!
