Always starts in Borderless mode

So I worked around most of my issues with the Thrustmaster axis bindings by switching to Alternate Launcher 1.60. Still need to transfer all my old bindings but the ones I’ve done so far work.
Now I find that every time I start using the AL, I’m always in Borderless mode with the SETUP screen jammed in the upper top left of my ASUS PG279Q monitor’s 2560x1440 screen (about 1024x768 if you believe paint). Of course I I have to do is change Window to FUll Screen and I’m good, but what’s the point of having fixed defaults that can’ be fixed?

You’ve got “Window” selected in the Alternate Launcher. Click that button to change it from white to grey.
Do note that it’s recommended to run Falcon BMS in windowed mode - you will likely get crashes in full screen.
The 2D interface is always 1024x768; you can press WinKey and +, or Ctrl+Alt and use the mouse wheel to turn on Windows magnifier to easier see the 2D interface. I’d recommend tuning the magnifier settings to your liking (I like mine to keep the mouse cursor centered).

I have a similar monitor and for me a 150 % magnification was a good compromise between quality of the upscaled 2D UI and still running windowed. In Full screen the ratio of the UI and the monitor is off so you get stretching and poor quality.

It starts in a borderless window for a few reasons. When using “native fullscreen” and using Alt+Tab on Vista-7-8-10 - the game will eventually freeze forcing you to reboot your PC because accessing Task Manager will be impossible.
Likewise another issue is that when switching fullscreen resolutions (between 2D and 3D world) the game will often crash before making an autosave after a completed mission and/or adding nothing to your logbook. It was incredibly annoying losing all progress after an extremely successful 1 hour long mission due to a crash (because you simply can’t have the same experience again and all will happen differently). And the workaround is switching to a borderless window. So my take is that in 4.34 and up borderless window is a default option just for exactly this very reason.
From what I gather while BMS team moved 3D renderer to DirectX11 - the 2D one is still that ancient GDI-based 1998 tech.

I wish we could have the possibility to increase the window size: the 2D UI is too small according to me …

Has been disussed multiple times. Would need a rewrite of the whole 2d code and I assume won’t happen anytime soon

You were correct, I did have the “WINDOW” Command Line box selected. I assume RTFM would have made it clear what that did and that white was selected, not deselected to my eyes/mind. Now that I’ve lived with it windowed for a week, it isn’t so bad. I’ve yet to see any CTDs but maybe that’s because I’m always in learning mode and flying the training missions.
