Ice’s Falcon BMS Profile Updated for BMS 4.37
-
@jacqueslees Latest Helios version 1.6.5306.4 has a fix in it to resolve some issues with switching planes without stopping and starting BMS nor Helios. I tested this and worked as designed. If its still occurring for you just go back to 1.6.5305 version and you should be ok as that was the only change for Falcon in 1.6.5306.4
-
@Todd1215 Yes and here is the thing, I’m using already 5306.4 and I don’t know for sure that it means this version already had the fix or I need to run a fix specifically for this version? Thx for the quick response !!
-
@jacqueslees The fix was for a bug in prior releases of Helios where switching planes without restarting BMS or Helios profile resulted in an incorrect representation of what the extraction area in shared memory is for each BMS window extraction ie: MFDs DED, PFL, etc …
That’s the fix that is in Helios 1.6.5306.4. If you have a see through DED and MFDs is pretty odd. The only Helios Falcon texture extraction that has that capability is the HUD and is off by default. The default Linknet Ice profile doesn’t have a HUD texture anywhere. Did you add it yourself?
If you can please open an issue in the Helios GitHub page or if you can’t do that then use imgur and add a screenshot and share the link to it I’d like to see what your screen looks like so I can get a better understanding of what is going on. Also if you upgraded (which shouldn’t be an issue) maybe try uninstall Helios and reinstall the latest version.

There u go, as I refresh a little bit it always happens on the ILS approach after charts and comm switches and calls.
-
@jacqueslees ok thanks for that. I am going to test this scenario and get back to you. I think I know what the issue is and if I am right you will have to go back to the previous Helios version 1.6.5305.3
Helios 1.6.5305.3 -
@Todd1215 I was able to verify your use case and will open a bug for Helios. Oddly I hit this bug with the ILS training missing but not the Navigation Training mission.
You can revert back to previous version for now or if you wish to stay on this version just switch to using RTT instead.
I will continue to test and figure out what and why this is happening.

@Todd1215 Thank you very much Todd! I was teaching my son to play around with the jet a bit so we were in the first Ground Ops scenario, I put him on the runway and he took off and used the autopilot to STPT 5 then halfway turned to 7 and proceeded to land, we could see the problem almost always on final, after comm calls.
-
@jacqueslees That seemed to be my experience as well. Something strange is going on behind the scenes in shared memory during that period of transitioning to landing.
-
@jacqueslees I have put together a fix for the scrambled Helios Falcon textures (MFDs,DED, RWR, etc )
Download the following zip file and unzip it to a folder. Copy the HeliosFalcon.dll file from the extracted zip file folder and place it in your Helios plugins directory. This directory is located under your Helios installation folder. Make sure you BACKUP your current HeliosFalcon.dll file before copying in the new DLL file.
This fix is compatible with Helios 1.6.5306 and newer.
This is just a quick fix and once the next release of Helios drops this DLL file will get replace with the latest version for the release.

@Todd1215 Thank you very much Todd, I just updated to U2 and tried your fix, the first Ground Ops TE was all good now, but before that the 4A formation training I got the same scrambled HUD across the export area: IMG_20220828_012052.jpg

@linknet Also I have been been intrigued by this for a very long time but now I see the reason : the fuel gauge actually feature a wrong way fan area for the F/R needle, better illustrated on the photo: in the virtual cockpit it was the white fan area to the right of the F/R needle, but on Helios it was to the left of the F/R needle.
-
@jacqueslees The Helios Fuel Quantity Gauge is based on the one in the BMS Manuals. However, having said that, I’ve read somewhere that for some F16 models with differently sized fuel tanks the design was reversed.
In fact, after just loading up several of the TEs, the lower numbered TEs generally have the reversed version and the higher numbered TEs generally have the Helios version as in the BMS Manuals below.

@linknet said in Ice’s Falcon BMS Profile Updated for BMS 4.36:
Instrument Lighting
How is this effect created?
-
@DC2slo All of the text and anything else that needs to be lit is transparent with a background of white which is then changed to various shades of green to simulate the instrument lighting.
-
@linknet Okay thanks, this makes sense. How would this be coded? For example, I think the bidding for instrument light goes from 1-3. Do I code a different shade of green for each change or is this something that Helios does? I am a visual learner so if you could point me to a video tutorial or a more thorough instruction form, I would be greatly appreciative.
-
@DC2slo There aren’t any tutorials for this. I suggest you open the Ice Profile and in the Panel BACKGROUND checkout the MemoryWire BACKLIGHT COLOUR and the MemoryWire BACKLIGHT OPACITY. If you follow through the inputs and outputs of these it should give you a good idea as to how the Instrument Lighting is implemented.
Following through the first output of the MemoryWire BACKLIGHT COLOUR you can then see that it sets the colour of the Panel COMBINED CONSOLE >> Rectangle BACKLIGHT COLOUR which lies beneath the Panel COMBINED CONSOLE with its transparent text.

@linknet Is it possible the +5 and -5 buttons on the HSI do +1 and -1only? Can’t find the buttons for the (E)HSI either?
-
@BVT_9 If you haven’t actioned this:
Requires “set g_nKnobAccelerationDelta 0” to be added to the Falcon_BMS.cfg file found in \User\Config.
Then, yes, the +5 and -5 buttons on the HSI will only give you +1 and -1.
Quote: Can’t find the buttons for the (E)HSI either? - Can you expand on that?
-
@linknet oh… I’m so stupid should’ve RTFMed… my apologies…
There used to be 4 invisible buttons on the eHSI that did this, no?
Thx anyway!
