My Monitor is showing darkness too dark!
-
I bought a new monitor LG 27" and a nvidia gtx 1650. Now on darkness my shadows are tottaly black wich is not realistic. I know that there is a setup in falconconfig.ini but it didn’t happen in my old monitor/graphic card so I am figuring out this is an issue with one of the two. Everything is runing in “automatic” cause I am not an graphic card expert.
Here is a picture from a RAMP START at night.Believe me, there is a cockpit and a truck in this picture. Open it and you will see them.
This is not supposed to be this way and my guess it is not a BMS issue, just my graphic configuration.
Anybody has a clue how to setup it propperly?thx :yo:

…is your visor up or down?
-
Maybe you have Ambietal Occlusion enabled in the gpu settings. Another possibility is that, as Stevie says, your dark visor is on.
Press Alt + V to check it

Nope, visor is up. Mind I didnt change my configs, just the hardware. Something is adjusted to “real dark” in my graphic card or monitor but I don’t find what….
Maybe you have Ambietal Occlusion enabled in the gpu settings.
LEt me try that…
EDIT: Didnt find this option, but My Monitor has a “Black Stablizer”… Could this be the problem?
-
if the problem is the monitor, the screenshot shouldn’t look so dark to us, I think. Try to look at the part of the colors, the brightness, contrast, etc. within the configuration of the gpu. If it is nvidia, something like this should appear:

The first question is, how it is outside from BMS?

I don’t have anything similar to compare. Nothing I run here resembles the shades expected in a “dark cockpit”!
The only reference I have is it didn’t happen in my former monitor…. On the contrary, I had to increase darkness in Falconconfig because during night the sky was as light as day (for the record, I set the FalconConfig back to its default). -

Going to try that
EDIT: Ambiental Occlusion already OFF

I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/dyeliz/lg_27gl850_way_too_dark/ but your screenshot looks too dark for us too.

I tried to Change the “Black Stabilizer” from 50 to 100. It makes some difference, although I cannot disable it. I tested the link and it shows differences, but the image look the same because the “printscreen” doesn’t show what the monitor shows…. funny.
Black Stabilizer 0% (Here both pictures look the same, but when viewing in the monitor the first row is almost invisible)
Black Stabilizer 100% (Here it is exactly what shows in the monitor)
So, my conclusion is that the problem is this Black Stabilizer feature… Leave with that I guess…
Now, at least, It is possible to see some shades in the cockpit:

That´s the problem hahaha. You can try setting up the brightnes in the configuration. Show me a screenshot of your nvidia configurator

New monitor … does it support HDR? Any HDR settings on the monitor on/off?
I think HDR is part of the monitor and graphics card “handshake” … just like native resolution and refresh-rates, etc.
I am no expert debugging this kind of thing but it looks like monitor might be expecting HDR signal but only getting SDR.
(Not sure that would show up in a software screenshot … but maybe, if the mon and gpu were confusing one another somehow.)

There in no option labeled HDR or SDR in the monitor settings…. I am not expert so I really don’t know… but thanks anyway

Darn. By any chance, was your old monitor a TV?
Many TVs usually expect a reduced dynamic-range signal … so instead of full 8-bit [0-255] RGB it’s something like [16-235] range. (And transmitted as luminance/chroma signals not digital RGB, for further signal compression.)
The result is dark-grey and black tones get crushed down, like that… but it’s usually the opposite case (moving your PC from a monitor to a TV).
And again, not sure this would affect a screenshot that you would send to us… I’m just shooting in the dark here. uh, no pun intended.
Here are the relevant spots on the NVidia control panel to look for these settings…

No. Another LG monitor. I checked the video and it is already set as FULL.
**EDIT: Ok, FIXED. My monitor has this performance setting, like TV’s (Cinema, Game, Photo, etc…). I switched from GAME to CINEMA and Voilà…
So… that Black Stabilizer is the one to blame. In CINEMA mode the Black Stabilizer is deactivated. So… the funniest is that I cannot use the GAME setup to fly a “game” (sorry). Maybe this is one of that monitors to use with Playstation or Xbox… :p**
Thanks guys for the support

Ugh, yeah sounds like by “game” they mean “game console” which often emit the compressed-range signal for TVs. (Although some like Xbox One can emit full-range RGB…)
Be sure to check if there are any separate settings to lower latency… sometimes “cinema” modes imply things like motion-blur-reduction which can add a frame or two of processing time.

Good point…The other options are photo custom… let’s see
