Keeping the ball in the middle is not something that’s really used in the F16. It’s not an A10/Cessna/whatever. I can imagine you wanting to use that however, since you’re used to it. We all have our preferences :).
EDIT: reference the manual about the Flight Control System >
The FLCS provides roll coordination automatically through the ARI (Aileron Rudder Interconnect)
system which is not active on the ground with WOW and until a few seconds after gear retraction. Now that the controls are sorted: have fun (re)learning!

I’m about to do a deep dive in the sim for a couple of hours tonight. Even if it’s just reading docs. One of the first things I want to (re)learn is how to change the default aircraft skin. And learn if I can import skins from previous F4 variants, (Allied Force, etc…) Because I want my blue Aggressor skin back on the jet. Even if it’s a lower res skin than the defaults in 4.35.

You say rudders are not that important, but yet I use them in every flight. I’m trained to make coordinated turns and keep the ball in the middle, in real aircraft, and I find having independent rudder control is very useful for making crosswind landings and precision lateral adjustments, such as when refueling. I definitely prefer to have them under my direct control.
Thanks for the information.
It’s been over a year since my last F4/BMS flight, until last evening. (Probably over two, actually.) After getting my HOTAS problems (the major ones) sorted out, I was pleased to confirm that I still know how to land properly. Didn’t bend anything even on my first landing. I must confess I don’t know why some people find landing to be difficult. To me it’s as easy as walking across the room. Just approach the ground slowly and meet it at a defined location. Make sure the gear is down. Simple. But, yeah, I’ve practiced it so much it’s in my own cranial autopilot. Muscle memory.
I probably don’t remember how to do a CCRP bomb run with a pair of JDAMs but…one thing at a time.
If u use the rudders that much, then why not get a dedicated rudder?
I also got back into BMS after a break of couple of years. Decided to do a landing without consulting the checklists or manual. Fly-by-feel. Managed to land without breaking anything, but the nose slammed down because I applied brakes too soon while aero-braking. Didn’t break the nose wheel though.
Then I tried night landing. Surprisingly that went well too. Immense sense of satisfaction!
So yeah I agree on what u said abt cranial autopilot/ muscle memory.F16 is easy to land, but difficult to land perfectly.

I do have the Thrustmaster Elite rudder pedals, but they don’t fit too well in my desk setup so I end up connecting them only some of the time, when I am more motivated than usual.
I need to find out who’s still doing Cougar mods to install load cell sensors and take most of the movement out of the stick. I always get better control when I keep the stick in the central zone and avoid going into the region where the springs in the Cougar work against me.

I am curious if Win11 installation would be any different. @Buzzbomb so you installed XP drivers in compatibility mode after trying the Vista ones, have you followed the Cub Pilot’s Cougar guide?
Edit: I saw you installed the Vista drivers in XP SP2 compat. mode. This is what I should do?

If you have a racing wheel /w pedals lying around you can use those as a “poor man’s rudder” without toebrakes, all you need to do is check “enable virtual rudder” in cfg and then assign the pedal axes (throttle and clutch) to your toebrakes.
All the best,
Uwe

Might as well take the medicine now, and change your desk configuration to accommodate pedals, or get a pair that fits. BMS, DCS, MSFS, X plane are all getting better and more realistic. Flying with pedals is part of the immersion and more fun .

It’s been a while. Just wanted to mention that all existing problems have been resolved. Everything is running well.
I’m still not quite sure that I wouldn’t rather assign the rudder to a modifier+ant elevation knob. Use that for NWS as well as flight rudder.
The Elite rudder pedals slide around on my terrazo floor. Their rubber feet don’t grip very well. Lot of ways to deal with that, of course.
I’ve committed the unpardonable sin of installing DCS World and buying the F-16C package for it. BMS 4.35 is a big jump in graphics quality over any previous version, but DCS is clearly better for out-the-window visuals,
while BMS looks and feels better IN the cockpit.I need to re-learn a lot, one of which is how to modify my default F-16 model/skin settings so that I can fly in the skin of my choosing even in tactical engagements.
Speaking of which, did the blue Aggressor skin ever get updated? I really liked that one and would use it if I could figure out how.

If you can, invest in a TUSBA device from Realsimulator. I use it on my Cougar throttle and it really improves the performance of it.
Also, check out Vipergear’s Cougar-Midlife Update Throttle Kit and Cougar-Midlife Update Stick Kit, also useful investments to extend the performance of your Cougar HOTAS
