sound stops working in 3d randomly
-
@oldtommyboy I do
set g_fRadioBalance -80.0
Because I thought it was meant to be a number between [-100] and [+100]. Not sure what ‘4’ means, but maybe you’re referring to something else…
-
@airtex2019 yeah, thats it,pretty sure i read something about trying +4 or -4 so uhf would sound more to the left and vhf more to the right.
I assume it meant left and right speaker effect.
Scince i put it back to 0 ,no problem with sound stopping so far. -
@oldtommyboy well sob, back to losing all sounds mid flight, sob.
twice now, once running full screen, once in borderless.
sounds in windows still work, just in sim stops.
even did a fresh install of 4.36 and the 2 updates, thats it.
if its the headset then it wouldnt work in windows, right.
i dont know,ugh -
@oldtommyboy ok,i think the problem is my 3mm plug on the front of my puter, when moving the pin around, i get intermitent break.
any little tips to help that.
using the ones in the back would be a pain.
thx
im assuming that one split second break stops bms from working until restart. wild guess here.not sure why it wouldnt just break than come back though.
windows comes right back,same with music,etc. -
I would try disabling exclusive mode for the playback and recording device(s) in use, at least to test. Not sure if I’ve recommended this in another post, seems familiar but sometimes my days blend together…
It’s a long shot, but sounds like those are the only shots left to try taking. I’ve had to do this for a number of custom audio applications, and that includes my VoiceAttack + VoiceMeeter, and my Buttkicker + SimShaker setups. Could be that some application is trying to take exclusive control of the playback device causing loss of availability at some point during operation of the BMS sim.
Open the Windows Control Panel (the old one) to Hardware & Sounds - open the (old) Sound panel as pictured, under the Playback and Recording tab, select each device you are using and click ‘Properties’ > click the Advanced tab, and uncheck the box shown to disable Exclusive Mode. Do this for each playback and recording device you’re actively using.

@SemlerPDX ok thx,i did see their all enabled, both lines.
before i try that, i did some messing around with the plug, took a flight today and all was good.
im going to try and leave the headphone jack in the plug after messing with it.
i noticed if i spun the pin around in the plug, i would get intermitent breaks , not sure if anything can be done besides replacement.
we shall see. -
I am not sure if you have mentioned it, but the intermittent breaks may not be the plug in the computer, but could also be a bent or damaged wire right by the molded plastic jack. I had that with a previous headset. Try working the cable on its own in Windows while sound is playing. If it causes static you should replace it if possible or stiffen it out with some tape to keep it from bending.
If it does turn out that the front plug is bad but backside plug is good, you could get an extension jack to better reach around to the back side plug.
And yes, BMS is really finicky about sound. Like, if you start BMS on a set of speakers and then want to fly using headphones, you have to leave BMS and restart

@jayb yeah,i,ll check that,i was messing with wires, but at the little on off switch in the line .
At first i thought it was there, but after numerous trys,i moved down the the plug .
Just kinda spinning the pin around in the plug is when i heard the popping.
Maybe just dirt in there, here,s hoping,it is quite old but never really used the plug.
O well,always something lately.
Anyway, didnt think about an extension line. Good idea if needed.
Thx -
@oldtommyboy If the plug has dust or debris in there, you might notice that the jack does not “click” as it should. In that case use a wooden toothpick or match and rummage around to loosen any material. Metal can damage the internals, so definitely go for wood. Then use a can of compressed air and give it a good dose of that. If you are lucky some gunk has assembled there and this should get rid of it
-
@jayb hmm,alcohol swab maybe.
