TWCS Throttle Help
-
Hi,
I have a TWCS Throttle which I would appreciate some help with. My main issue is that it is really slow responding. When I start in 3D, I need to wiggle it up and down for a few seconds before the sim picks it up (throttle is working fine), it then seems to be really slow responding and has very little granularity. I can use it in DCS absolutely fine with much more granularity and without needing to wiggle when I start in 3D.
I use alt. launcher and have the idle cutoff set at the lowest setting and the AB set at about 85%. Is there anything I should check?
My other smaller issue is that alt. launcher is looking for an axis for the wheel brake when I don’t have any axis left so I am looking to use a button. I can set a button in key assign but it never works so I set it in BMS which works but doesn’t save when I restart the app, I assume Alt. Launcher is overwriting it. Is there a keyfile I should update?
Any help on ether of these issues would be super appreciated!
Thanks,

@wazza69 I speak from memory, I don’t have the computer in front of me right now and I can’t tell you exactly… But to save that button that you configure select TWCS and save there, not on the joystick
-
@wazza69 the wiggle-the-throttle thing is not just you. but I only ever do it, when first entering 3D. it’s nowhere on my top 100 list of problems…
the Alt Launcher thing is weird. I can imagine there’s maybe a bug (eg. maybe it’s trying to re-apply a default template for your stick/hotas?) but impossible to say without more clear repro steps, incl a list of all your input devices.
share some screenshots, or maybe video would be helpful

As @airtex2019 said I also only make a full movement of the throttle all the way up and down, only once when I enter 3D, then it works just fine.
I also use AltLauncher but I haven’t set Idle Cutoff, only AB detent, no need to do anything else about that. Idle cutoff is risky though as it has no physical detent on the throttle, and you might turn off your engine mid-air by accident.
The braking issue with AltLauncher is weird. I also use a button on the stick for breaking. Make sure that AltLauncher hasn’t assigned an axis for either breaking (see pic below). If it has then the assigned key will not work, cause it uses the axis. Unassign the axis by hitting clear and save and it should work.

@danaos75 thanks for this. Clearing and saving the brake as an axis worked!
All - due to the lack of axis on the TWCS I want to use the little finger axis with a modifier. Is there an easy way to do this with alternative launcher? Thanks

The wiggling of the throttle is a BMS feature. Happens to the best of us.
-
@wazza69 “little finger axis” if you mean the mini stick on the index finger, that is ideal for the radar -hsd cursor. At least in my setup. Because it is over sensitive on BMS , I have lowered it’s sensitivity on config file and it works great. Glad I could help.
-
@danaos75 thanks. Good tip on the cursor sensitivity, i’ll have a play…
J don’t think I explained my original request very well, I am trying to have the axis which is under the pinkie finger assigned to MAN RANGE when used with a modifier. I use it for Antenna Elevation without a modifier. I’d there a way to do this with alt launcher?

@danaos75 I find that I leave the toe brakes axis in the launcher empty or unassigned and yet every time I start the game, the toe brakes are assigned to the TWCS. When assigned to the throttle rocker and a separate key, the toe brakes have no stopping power.
-
@Tobruk that is strange, doesn’t happen to my twcs. Try this: start launcher --> remove toe brake axis assignment --> close launcher --> reopen launcher and check that axis remains unassigned --> start bms and check in the sim.

@danaos75 Yep that was it, for some reason in launcher the toe brake was setting to the thottle. I never noticed it.
-
@danaos75 What were your config settings for lowering sensitivity of the throttle joy stick ?
-
@Tobruk sorry for the late reply, I have reduced cursor speed to 0.75. That is enough for me.
set g_fCursorSpeed 0.75

@danaos75 Great thanks
