Problem with my loading my Cougar

I have just bought a new computer and am trying to connect and load my Cougar Hotas. I connect up Cougar, load the disk that comes with it and get “STTubeDevice203.dll is missing error”. I have read over many post and determined that I need to begin to fix this by going to the Thrustmaster page and downloading “2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe” to install the new version. When I run “2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe” it prompts my to uninstall previous versions, this is the only option. When I do that it removes the HOTAS directory and all associated files from the program file (x86) directory. Now I have no Thrustmaster HOTAS or Foxy directories and a dead stick. I am running Windows 8.1 … please hold back the ridicule as I have seen that few people are fond of 8.1 and 7 is the preferred OS. Help please

I would suggest to uninstall any TM or foxy stuff and follow these instructions to the T. I know it’s for W7 but might help you out as did for me.

Thanks for your help. Tried that but stick seems to be dead. Will continue to work on it.

Just posting the fix for my problem. Used your link and followed the instructions. Specifically, my issue was that stick was not being recognized. I went to Device Manager and forced thrustmaster In and Out to load the firmware. Works great … thanks all

Additional info about this problem. I believe the issue stems from the fact that Cougar predates 64 bit Windows, so the install software copies the STTubeDevice203.dll to the wrong folder. Solution is to copy it from the Cougar folder to C:\Windows\SysWOW64.

The 64 bit drivers for Vista should be used if you have a 64 bit system…not shuffling a 32 bit dll around.
This problem appears to be due to the sticks firmware becoming corrupted which can be corrected by forcing a reload of the firmware (look at Blu3Wolf’s PDF for how to do this). I’ve had to do this twice in 10+ years of using Cougars, no drama’s.
