Solved 4.37 CTD after several minutes
-
Damn CTD… left Pc running here for 10 hours in 3d, no sign of it.
Are you both running KTO? Any specific change in configuration or mission?
Labels on or off?
-
@Seifer
KTO and no specific config changes. Labels on or off makes no difference. -
@Seifer It was my first instinct too, to look for some thread of commonality in hardware/OS config… but lol…
- laptop vs desktop
- older OS vs newer OS build
- newer CPU vs older CPU
- newer GPU vs older GPU (and drivers)
The one thing that jumps out at me is
Memory /Frequency: 1200.3 MHz (3:36)
@Eagle10, can you verify that? seems weird or wrong… I would expect a 10th gen Intel system to have RAM around 2000-3000 MHz range.
[Edit: oh it sounds like some tools report half… because DDR = “dual data rate”… 1200 MHz == 2400 MHz … if that’s the case, nevermind]
@Seifer, could very-slow-RAM possibly be a common cause? (Or more likely, fast-CPU to slow-RAM ratio? thinking, if it is a race condition.) It’s a huge stretch of the imagination. But not sure what else to look for.
I have an older laptop with very similar specs to Killroy. Will try to repro there.
-
Folks, I still have not found the cause of what is happening. But if this is indeed a race, you have some options to make it less likely to happen. Open your
Falcon BMS.cfg
and look for the CpuPerfOptimizations line.Replace
set g_sCpuPerfOptimizations "all"
with
set g_sCpuPerfOptimizations "all-PARALLEL_DRAW_OBJLIST"
This will disable parallelization of object list (probably a 20 to 30% performance hit) but will make the bug less likely to happen.
I will keep investigating.
-
@airtex2019 Oh you are right. According the BIOS it’s running @ 2400MHz.
-
@Seifer thats promising. The first mission without CTD.
Btw: i could’nt find this entry in the cfg, so i 've created a new one.
I’m looking forward for your further investigations … -
@Eagle10 oh yes, sorry, you are right. We didnt put Cpu flags there.
-
@Seifer
the set g_sCpuPerfOptimizations “all-PARALLEL_DRAW_OBJLIST”
worked for my test , usually CTD after 15 min flight, now worked the whole 1 hr flight -
folks, I need your help to test this. This is not a deterministic CTD and is happening for only a few people (none of my testers have it). The flag disabling is just a workaround that is dropping your performance…
Only Killroy answered the call… Help me help you! Thanks!

Ok, I’ve turned Labels on in a new Tiger Spirit campaign, crashed shortly after gear up. Turned them off and no issue.
-
@Icer is it specifically this?
Falcon BMS.exe caused an EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT in: 00000000045972A3 Falcon BMS.exe, bp::DrawList<unsigned __int64>::addCommand()+419 byte(s), D:\Dev\BMS\Code\Graphics\Bluebox\Engine\Common\DrawList.h, line 508
If it’s a different crash, let’s open a new topic. If the same … can you confirm repro in a simple TE or Instant Action?

@airtex2019 - Just teste IA with labels, CTD and this is the line I have - looks familiar…
-
@Seifer
after disabling Labels in Setup and deleting the parallel_draw entry in cfg, no CTD so far. -

I already know where the CTD happens and how to fix it. What I don’t know is why it happens. Really tricky this one. Still working on it.

I don’t even see that line in cfg?

-
@MLU not really a fix, but a workaround, as it disable a major performance component. The fix I am still working on it. If you wish to test, let me know. But I will be away for a week, starting tomorrow.
