Trigger detents

Hey All!
My joystick has 2 trigger detents. I see that BMS has bindings for first trigger detent and second trigger detent, and I think the gun is hooked up to the 2nd trigger detent, but is there any practical purpose to the first detent? Does the F-16 have 2 detents on the trigger? Thanks!

Yes, and yes.
Starting ACMI recording for the first question, along with manual lasing. The same functions in the real jet for the (unasked) corollary to the second question.

There are two gun trigger commands …. SimTrigger & SimTriggerSecondDetent. IIRC, one has rudder input yaw compensation and one does not. I don’t recall for sure which is which or which of those is realistic.
There is a thread with a nice discussion about it around here somewhere.

One has rudder input compensation, and incorrect avionics. The other has magic recoil-less fire, but correct avionics.

Right …… I kind of remember that. Do you recall he avionics difference; what’s not right?
-
Its pretty simple. The incorrect avionics is simply that depressing the trigger (well, activating the callback) will fire the gun, regardless of the avionics mode. The correct avionics is that the gun must meet certain conditions to fire - GUN SMS RDY, either through the A-G or A-A GUN submode rotary, or the DGFT OVRD (and MASTER ARM set to ARM obviously).
It was supposed to be set up so that one was the ‘old’ and incorrect callback, with no recoil, and incorrect avionics. There was two different fixes applied by the BMS team - one was the avionics fix, to prevent the gun from firing unless the conditions are met, and the other was the flight model fix, to give the gun recoil, and to have yaw recoil compensation to help deal with the yaw from the recoil.
Only problem was, the two fixes were applied to different callbacks… hoping that gets fixed for 4.33, myself.

Ahh, so there is no one correct. I use SimTrigger but it’s a question of what aspects you want correct.
-
Exactly. IIRC, I use SimTriggerSecondDetent, which again IIRC is the one with the correct avionics. This gives me somewhat an advantage on some when dogfighting, but having the gun fire in NAV mode is simply not an option for me - and I understand its not an uncommon position among a number of the “professional” elite BFM/ACM practitioners at FO.
