Cougar U2 NXT & Simped Rudder Pedals Problem
-
My cat chewed through the cable connecting my Simped F-16 rudder pedals to my TM Cougar NXT HOTAS. I had to crimp all 5 of the wires. Now the rudder is biased to the right and I cannot get full left rudder. NWS is biased as well, cannot turn left and stay on a yellow taxiway line. I tried manual recalibration with the CCP, and also using “Center” in BMS 3.73 setup but cannot correct the problem. Windows calibration shows the right rudder bias. Any suggestions?

I just rechecked the wire connection crimps, unplugged the 15-pin connector to the Cougar joystick and the USB connection to the computer. I started the BMS 3.73 sim launcher and checked the axis settings. There was nothing set for the rudder axis. I connected the 15-pin connector to the joystick and plugged the USB cable back into the computer. I set the rudder axis in the launcher and the rudder axis has reset to normal operation. Wow! Problem resolved for now. I placed a cable protector around the cable from the rudder peddles to the joystick to prevent another cat attack. I’ll check everything in the sim tomorrow.

@mjones kuddos… and you kept the cat too

It was probably some “electrical resistance” problem , since wires were crimped (not factory anymore) resistance changed, and controller was out of calibration. - was stick plugged in (powered) when “cat attack” occurred ?
It would be best to “in-line” solder the cut wires, for better conductivity (better then crimping) - since we’re dealing with somewhat delicate resistor changes. — but after if calibration is within limits , then you’re OK
The cat was lucky that these weren’t main, power line chords, which would result in crispy cat
Yeah, I’ve seen similar attack on my front-left speaker , those tiny pointed teeth cut the copper inside insulation like cheese, leaving me baffled – it was working yesterday just fine???
Cheers

Ran BMS 3.73 today, rudder pedals working perfectly. The crimped wires are not a factor. I have heard the expression, “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it”, Yes, I was using the sim when he chewed the cable under my desktop. I was so focused on the game I didn’t notice what was happening until I lost rudder control. Initially thought it was a BMS 3.73 bug as I am no longer using the Cougar CCP with the new Launcher. Interesting, the cat does not like an AC electrical cord. I was worried about that as well, thanks!
