Can't fire gun
-
Hi,
Weird issue: in the UI the trigger shows as working correctly, but in the jet, I can’t fire the gun.
I pull the trigger, and nothing.
Pickle works fine, so it’s not a switchology issue with the jet.
Any ideas?

have you mapped 1st or 2nd detent trigger? 2nd is required to fire the gun. 1st dentent fires the laser only.

Wait… let me explain something…
I mapped detents backwards, so hardware first detent is second detent trigger. This was due to my old WH stick being too hard to pull through to the second hardware detent to fire the gun, resulting in missed shots.
Does the gun require BOTH trigger detents to fire? Like an interlock? I will remap them as pulling the second detent on the VKB is much easier.
I seem to recall having this issue before, and needing to change something, but that was a while ago and I have a newer sim version and new hardware together.

No.
If someone only has 1 trigger detent on their stick, they can just map it to the 2nd in-game. -

Hi, Tiger. A couple of things come to mind…
- First, no you do not need the first trigger mapped to fire the gun (second trigger). Also, pickle and trigger functions are 2 independent things.
- On my WH I happen to map dx-shift pinky on my first trigger. and I notice that I have to hold the trigger “between” the 2 detent and then click in the command window in order to set second trig properly. Or, your your case, be sure you do not press the trigger until you click into the command window But, you say it’s working in the Launcher so that’s probably not it.
- Just to remove a variable, are you in a mode that will allow the gun to fire(ie:DFT) ?
- I’m unclear whether you’re describing your new VKB ( I’m unfamiliar with that) or the “old WH”. I mention that as I have had controls break on a WH. Have you checked for switch failure by mapping some other command like speed brake toggle or whatever to first trigger?

I mapped detents backwards,
Many budget sticks only have 1 trigger button… there, the idea is to map that button to Trigger2ndDetent which acts as “both” triggers.
In combat, it happens to not ever be much of a conflict, in practice… Trigger1 only does a couple things (activate laser manually in TGP, and activate AVTR recorder if you have that so configured).
You can do those things in modes that won’t fire the cannon.

Thanks for the help!
I manually mapped the binds in the .key file. I’m not using the UI for that.
I found the issue: when testing the binds in the UI, pressing the gun trigger caused it to display “Fire Gun”, however this is not correct! When I pressed into the second hardware detent, it displayed “FIRST TRIGGER DETENT”.
It seems if the first button (DX button 0) is not mapped, it falls back to some kind of internal key map which is invalid for the sim!
I added a DX keybind for SECOND TRIGGER DETENT, tested it in the sim, and it worked!
I also confirmed that it isn’t interlocked, and only using a single detent works.
I’m now using a VKB Gunfighter III MCG Ultimate. During this testing I found I still need to map the triggers backwards, otherwise I make undesirable control inputs while pulling the trigger.

@Tiger-0 I’m glad you got it sorted. Just out of curiosity, why not just use the Launcher-formerly-known -as- alternate?

Interesting find. I believe there is a layer of ancient default/fallback code for the first few buttons and pov hat.
Eg. it’s what makes the pov hat do look-around without actually binding those 8 directions explicitly
Maybe something broken, down at that layer. It’s on my list of things to look into.

Old ways die hard! I know my way around the key file, so it was as easy for me to do it manually as it is to use a tool. When I double-checked the mapping, that is when I discovered it was not mapped anywhere.
