Sorry if this is a silly question, I’m a recent convert to Falcon BMS - massive learning curve. I’ve recently purchased a DelanClip head tracker (very pleased so far) and after trying out various settings I’ve settled on moving my default position back so I can see more of the cockpit, as the default position felt far too close to the controls. Only issue is, this doesn’t seem to adjust the zoom of the HUD, so the edges of the display extend beyond the glass, so I’m unable to see speed, height etc. Is there some way I’m missing to reduce the zoom of the HUD so it fits within the display area? Images attached for context.

HUDs don’t have zoom. They are defined in angular position. The image isn’t on the glass; it’s at infinity. You’re supposed to sit at design eye.

To see more of the cockpit, change your default FOV to about 70 or 80, rather than leaning backwards. Hope this helps. Cheers

To be clear you can set your default FOV (and its range) in Falcon BMS.cfg or even better in Falcon BMS User.cfg (which won’t get overwritten by updates hopefully).

Just experiment with some values until you find the right one for you. Also make sure to map the “freeze tracking” and “reset center” functions to a convienent key and / or button as they’re very useful.

You can also adjust the seat position up / down while in 3d which helps with HUD visibility as well.

Another setting to consider is the “Z axis”, you can use it for “zoom” (some consider this cheating as it provides a nice binoculars effect esp. on ground targets) or “z movement” back and forth in the cockpit. Take your time to get comfortable with head tracking, it takes a while to be sure. Also play with the axis mappings / responses / curves in OpenTrack.

            All the best,

            Uwe

How exactly are you doing this?

I’ve taken 2 screenshots — top one is a silly 120FOV, the bottom is a more reasonable 90FOV

As you can see, the HUD text is well within the glass. Look at altering set g_fMaximumFOV and set g_fDefaultFOV to find what you like.
