We in the EdAv are planning an air to air shooting range session. We used to fly a couple of sessions once a year when flying the good old zipper in FSX/P3D. We flew traffic patterns really close to the one described in “Vlamgat” by Dick Lord. Any idea about how are these missions flown in the real world Viper?

      Thank you!

Thank you Dee-Jay, but as you can imagine I already know the text…I mean AIR TO AIR, not air to ground, and not gun tracking exercises, I mean real fire. Here in Spain is made shooting at a towered dart ( the towering plane is a F-5B), that has sonic detectors to evaluate the precission of the shots. I know that the usual NATO procedure is quite different from the one used here ( here is a circular pattern, just one shooting plane per pattern). My idea is to know more about the real NATO procedure

As @Dee-Jay said MULTI-COMMAND HANDBOOK 11-F16 /16v5 this manual have those data for exercises under NATO fundamentals and all NATO air force have these as HOLLY BIBLE

2 vs. 2 , 2 vs. many , SSO, defensive offensive setups e.t.c …. Or another good book is

Fighter_Combat-Tactics_and_Maneuvering.pdf a nice pdf, almost all the setups can be done with drones too.

Chapter 9.5 has some useful exercises for practice… and chapter 4.6 onwards.

The handbook is both outdated and lacking any information on air-air range practice Geraki. Hardly a bible for that area. ‘NATO Fundamentals’ is not a chapter of the text either. Are you thinking of a different manual?

Suggestions, anyone? Im interested in any docs describing what the OP is looking for.

i do not think so …. there are basic procedures for air to air war …in ACM and BVR … and many more

also each country have their own updated modified volume 5 and it is classified

                BVR

                1. Pincer & Drag
                2. Posthole
                3. Drag & Beam

                ACM-BFM
                Offencive-defencive
                SSO- sigle side offset
                Pincer …
IR managment are some common… which you can search on the net for info and graphs.

try also to join multi national hardcore virtual squads for knowledge exchange…

I hope in near feature a joined program from hardcore vsquads which is under constraction to become true

                  @Geraki:

try also to join multi national hardcore virtual squads for knowledge exchange…

Im open to recommendations for such squads, being a lone wolf at the moment.

Also, the OP said he is looking for live fire stuff. You cant do defensive BFM exercises in a live fire scenario!!

Im aware the handbook is out of date and that there are more up to date versions out there… Its the predecessor of the AFTTP3-3 vol 5 (and assorted country specific variations).

Im just pointing out that it does not detail what the OP is looking for. Im certainly not denying that it has useful stuff for learning air-air concepts!

When u say ´range procedures´ Do u mean the air space control ordeR or the setups per se???
If its the former, there r some variables to consider and i dont think (maybe im wrong)they r mentioned in any of the manuals forementioned
