X55 worth getting?

WDP can be used to open any .tac or .cam file which is practically everything. When you open a campaign save file the very first thing it asks you is what flight by nation>package>flight which is fastest to type in the package number. ATO is theater-wide by the way and there is only one. It’s “the ATO” not “my squadron’s ATO.” But yes, the WDP added a new feature that aggregates all the take off times from all flights and filters them down to just from your airbase around your takeoff time (-25min through the one after you it seems). The report button is in the lower left on the brief/data/coord pages.
Hardened Aircraft Shelter
Yea thats the one, i remember only a few days ago seeing in the news about the US wants Turkey to commit their jets to the ATO for the strikes in syria against ISIS (in real life that is)….so ATO being what commands all air forces in an operational theater. So in Korea in BMS the ATO would be issued by the USAF high command…i guess? and then in the balkans campaign it would be by the high command of NATO.

CNS, you’re right that WDP is totally cool.
The procedure is-- On the UI screen stop time(upper right) and note your package number. Alt + Tab drop return to your pc desktop
2)Open WDP ( BTW, before this you should set up your callsign, MFD’s,etc. in WDP). Unlike the tutorials, the current WDP does not have a visible “open mission” button". Just hit the file( I believe) It’s the button right above the theater button. This is done after you have selected the theater, of course. Then, “open mission”. You’ll want to click on Auto Save, then it will take you to the screen you find the package number. WDP will populate the data card, and you print.
One tip-when you click on “auto save”, the window that appears has a drop down box for the file extension. It defaults to .tac(at least mine did) . If flying a campaign, change that to .cam

I remember someone on here saying that a package is a group of flights that are assigned different missions to achieve a goal, which can be say, strike an enemy airbase. So what they’re saying is a package would consist of a SEAD escort flight, a TarCAP and an OCA strike, the latter being the one that actually strikes the enemy AB. But in the mission schedule when you see a number of flights, each one has its own package number, a few questions…
1.So isnt it just a flight that is referred to as a package? so you’d say that you’re gona fly as part of a 4 ship SEAD escort package? if it was a number of flights involved with achieving a goal, shouldnt they all have the same package number?
2. I’m unsure of some of the mission types in the game. I know most of them, what they are and what you do in them, but one one that i’m unsure of is a DCA strike. I know it stands for defensive counter air but what exactly are they for? i know offensive counter air is a mission where you’re looking to damage the enemies’ ability to launch their own aircraft (usually to strike an AB).I was thinking DCA is just a patrol where you’re defending an AB or anything from an enemy strike…but i thought a BarCAP would be used for that.

@cns - Just a reminder, the topic of the thread is “X-55 Worth Getting?” Recommend that you search the forum or start a new thread if you are on a different topic. Not trying to be ugly, but you have a lot of questions that do not pertain to the thread topic. Did you ever get TS3 up and running yet?
-
Yea i’ve always had it, are u on there now?
Sorry bout that- will keep discussion based on thread topic.

I’m not so fearful of off topic. X-55 is a very worthwhile, probably the best choice, of joystick in its price range. If anyone wants to talk about X-55 I will drop side chat but until then:
1. A package is a group of 1 or more flights. Flights have tasking, packages have a mission. All flights within a package share the same package number…
2. No such thing as DCA Strike. DCA and BARCAP are both types of DCA, similar but GAR is barrier like a fence. DCA more like point defense.
-
Cool i see so DCA would be a patrol just above something that needs to be defended, i.e. and airbase, a BarCAP is a set patrol zone for defence against any enemy threats, like to defend a specific area with a lot of friendly ground forces close to the FLOT.

I’ve been seeing quite a lot of comments about the X55 being difficult to setup, is it really that difficult?
No, I just got an X55 to replace my old X52. Now after 4 years going back to the Viper, I must re learn everything and re type in this wonderful simulation!
One great thing about the X55 and BMS, just bind everything from the sims GUI and save it.
Great stick and throttle.

That’s the way everyone is going and it’s very easy, but it limits the X55 and you can’t use it to it’s full potential. If you learn how to use the software for it, you can create a good profile using all 3 modes. There’s a great video created by Frugal on youtube that show’s you how to use the software. Either way is great depending on what you want to get out of the X55.
