New NVIDIA drivers
-
I tested quickly whql 331.82. They seem ok (still few stutters with IT as usual but playable). Same settings recommendation than before.
-
can you recommend driver for the 760GTX without MFDE? I get shutters at simple TE at Israeli theater while putting my head down at ramp start and it drives me crazy. I tried many drivers but it doesn’t change. I also tried to turn off all the options in the nVidia CP without success. I also turned focus shadows off.
I hope I can solve this thing
RFAFAIK the only driver that works properly is 306.97. 700 series can’t use them. That is why I am still running 580’s. I will upgrade when they fix it.

Correct, i just tested the latest 331.82 and i see major stutters , reverted right back. I believe 306.97 also supports the 600 series. I’ts kind of annoying because i dont want to move away from NVIDIA ( hackintosh work better with NVIDIa chipsets ), and investing 300+$ on a new card to get stutters is basically a no go. Im still wondering what the heck they changed…

Correct. 306.97 support ends at 600 series. I have a bad felling this will not get resolved unless by accident from nVidia.

me too. cant use later than 306.97! microstutters are killing the fun! and nvidia will not do anything for (or rather against) this on purpose…

I dont think they are micro-stutters, they are quite macroscopic drop in frame rates. I thought initially it was a matter of newer drivers being tweaked for newer cards but it seems the drops happens to people running 780s…

I am worried this will ruin BMS as the older cards become obsolete.

Not sure what’s the devs position on the subject. Not all games stutter with newer drivers so a workaround may be possible

If someone has issues with important stutters but wants anyway to use the latest drivers (wanting to play BF4 or last COD etc), he/she can try the following (in my case I have no stutters with the original theater, very few with the latest Balkans ones and a little bit more but still playable with IT and between 50 fps and 35 fps in solo campaign with 3D surround and under all circumstances with very nice quality of the graphics).
1 and most important :In BMS setup graphics: multisampling unchecked (off), quality level 0
2 in bms configuration, Settings hardware, Shaders, post processing effects, motion blur off; shadow mapping: focus shadows off and focus shadow reflexion off under water environment mapping. For lighting effect: per pixel on, per vertex off. FalconBMS Display extraction off (I don’t use it with triple screen and 3D surround anyway).
3 Create if it is not existing a BMS profile with Nvidia inspector, then by order of decreasing importance
“Maximum pre-rendered frames: 2”. AA mode: Override any application setting; Antialiasing setting: 4xS. Anisotropic filtering: user defined; Anisotropic setting: 16X. Vertical sync Tear control: adaptative; Vertical Sync: “use the 3D application settings”; AA transparency multisampling: disabled; Toggle FXAA: on; Texture filtering LOD bias: “Clamp”; Texture filtering Quality: high quality.
“force AFR2” seems to help as well: Nvidia predifined SLI mode and SLI rendering mode to: “force AFR2” ( 3 changes to make).Vertical sync smooth AFR behavior: on (specific to SLI);
for 3D or 3D surround in BMS setup graphics: 120Hz, VSync: onIncreasing the voltage of one of my GC to match the one o’c from factory.

Yes, it seems that is going to come down to turning off a bunch of graphics options, including MFD extraction, or stay with 306.97. Not a great choice, but it appears we are stuck with it at least for now.
-
Finally I return to the beta 331.40 much more stable in 3D. I have 2x670 in SLI. With the 331.82 I have CTD launching the game or just after entering the cockpit.

It is the first time that a driver update is not working at all for me. When I launch BMS it freezes on the UI screen. I can’t see the cursor, I can’t selct anything and I can’t even ALT+TAB to the desktop.
It happened already with the 331.40 beta, but I was hoping that it would be fixed in the WHQL release.
For me it is a MUST to roll back to 327.23, which are the latest working drivers on my rig.
Other games like DCS or ArmaIII run fine with 331.58, but BMS is a NO GO.
Too bad, I hope they fix it woth the next release.
After not being able to use neither 331.40 beta nor 331.58, I gave it a try to the newest 331.82 and they work perfectly on my rig.
No stutters, good performance and since I play also some other games, I benefit from the “litte” performance gain for the dx11 games.
No changes in BMS performance though.
So here you have a guy for whom last two drivers were a big NO GO, but these latest ones work. I would try them specially if my card was from the 700 series.

Stutters are caused by drivers later than 306.97. Not an option for 760. Try turning off focus shadows and do not extract MFD’s. You might be ok then.
Newer drivers only work for me if I doi not use any kind of extraction or focus shadows. That is likely why some say they work and others do not.

Is using MFD Extractor software instead of BMS own extractor for MFDs might work?

No, because the two things I have found so far that cause the stutters on my setup.
-
switch g_bExportRTTTextures 1
0 setting is fine, but no MFD extraction. -
Focus shadows.
Of course none of these problems are in 306.97 drivers.
-
-
Imagine a year ahead most people have hardware which doesn’t support the old driver. This is bad for bms. I hope nvidia or the bms devs find a solution here…

- switch g_bExportRTTTextures 1

You can export MFDs with “switch g_bExportRTTTextures 0” if you use GiGurra’s GPT extraction tool. And it can be used in standalone or server/client config.

Good to know. I will give it a try.

This time I can say that I can enjoy again F4BMS in 5880x1080 in 3D surround. The latest drivers whql 332.21 alone don’t improve the stutter issue but coupled with the AFR2 fix https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?13858-For-SLI-users-AFR2-gives-better-FPS-performance-with-lower-GPU-usage&highlight=sli+stutters
with the max pre-rendered fps to 2, with the usual unchecked focus shadows and focus shadow reflection then disabling Multisampling in BMS and using NVI, fix the issue for me even for Israel Theater 0.99 and Balkans with high resolution texture.
In addition these latest drivers are also necessary for me to enjoy Assetto Corsa (a SLI profile was created and the improvement is huge for me).I feel sorry in advance for the ones that will not get any improvement, it is the same for AC users some are benefiting and some other not. I was using so far the beta 331.40 as I didn’t have good result for F4BMS or FSX so far with the ones available recently.
