Wingman disobey my orders
-
I was in a sweep with a wingman (campaign play). As usual I issue a weapons safe command. Shortly before the flot a boogie is spotted on our right. Not terribly far but sufficiently so as to not be an immediate concern. We had speed and altitude on our side, the boogie appeared to circle in place, and the sweep target WPs were far. I decided to move on.
Seconds later my wingman asks permission to engage, a few more seconds and he’s steering. Then he’s on full burner calling fox 3 long.
I didn’t give him any permission. I repeated the mission a few times and the wingman ignored my order always. The wingman ends flaming in a furball with too many gentlemen found thataway and the mission is ruined.
Why doesn’t he obey? What am I doing wrong?!

The AI wingmen are sometimes a bit… Suicidal.
I usually tell them “weapons hold” directly after fence in. If they feel the need to engage anybody that I don’t want them to do, just call “wepaons hold” and “rejoin” a second time.
“Weapons free” will enable the blood rage mode again which is great for clearing your six for example.Monitor your data link closely.
However, I think they will shoot if they are forced into the defensive.

It’s been a long time since I’ve flown with AI (MP is the way to go ) but I think AI requests a clearance, and when not explicitly denied, it will assume you’re too busy and he can proceed “to save your life”.
As TobiasA already said: Try setting up an engagement, wait until they request permission and THEN give the “weapons hold”. Maybe that works?

You need to reign over your wingmen with a short leash and be constantly riding them (verbally). Typically they start to pay attention and listen once you have demonstrated your mastery over the skies, and your ability with a bullwhip in the gents toilets.

He never actually said that it was an AI wingman… I assume this WAS multiplayer XD

ok no, look, it is an AI wingman. (should I practice the bullwhip anyway? :-?) -
Ah, I see…. well practice it anyway, pilots who disobey orders in the air are a liability…
