BMS 4.33 Shortcuts.
-
Hello, first thanks for the new bms4.33.
I would like to know where to find a keyboard shortcut layout because in 4.33 I’ll really don’t understand the new shortcut.
For exemple I’ll can’t contact the tower an even can’t pass to AA mode to AG mode! Irealy don’t know what shortcut using.
Thanks by advance for your help.

Depends what keyfile you have loaded, but start here: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Key Files & Input\Keyboard Layout Files\BMS Keyboard Layout (US Int).pdf (if you’re using US Intl layout; otherwise check the other layouts).

Thanks, I’m with full bms 4.33 I’ll can load another? In fact I’ll really don’t understand the new shortcuts.

Use mouse , and full keyfile is best

Yes but now I’ll really even understand how go to AG mode or AA (I’ll also click on AA et AG button;no way)mode,is there a doc about new shortcuts? I’ll try the doc in bms but I’m confused.
Despite I use comm with the cartridge I’ll also no comm for the tower……actually I’m near the runway and look the other plane take off!:D

Hey majorfatal, It depends, your choice usually what type of HOTAS you use. By shortcuts I assume you mean keystrokes? A small example might help, BMS FULL key map, item Ctrl / (in left column) Stick: First Trigger Detent (right column) The function is to fire the IR /Laser when activated and in a A/G mode. (in the BMS manual) you can change that keystroke if you wish but no need to as far as I can see. some keystrokes tell you exactly what they do in the right column like N–- ckpt nightvision toggle, (the same keystroke that turns it on will turn it off). And some keys have multi function like Shift/ ––(it controls) NWS/AR Disc/MSL Step. All switches arranged in categories of possible use by cockpit position and HOTAS input. Constantly used functions, best I can tell will have a keystroke assigned, others are your choice. Key substitution works best if you have a mouse, any cockpit keystroke that is re-assigned to No Keystroke is still accessible by a mouse click. Last example, I was having trouble with Airbrake close by assigning the keystroke to ( h ) to that function it works perfectly, (h) was HUD scales switch- cycle, but in the cockpit I use the mouse to perform this function, you lose the keystroke but the mouse performs this action. I hope that was a little help. Got to read the manuals a lot of things have been improved and changed. The BMS Dev’s did a great job. Bye the Bye if I have stated anything wrong please correct me we don’t want majorfatal to head in the wrong direction.

It is some labor but to go from training instructions to keyboard key there is a chain of information. It is a few links but is very reliable. I’ll give an example from “I skipped all the manuals and tried to do the first Training TE” knowledge to getting a solution to a problem:
1. The lesson is followed until the first issue: How do I enable nose wheel steering? This is a common issue for many new users because it is not clickable and is a semi-complex multi-function switch. Training text is more detailed but I’ll assume the worst situation that the only instruction given is “enable NWS.” Let’s assume that no more information is given and you don’t have this knowledge. We don’t know what NWS is or how to turn it on at all.
2. Step one is to expand our knowledge of an acronym to the full meaning. What does NWS mean? Is it Non-meteorological Weather Sensor? Negative Wave Suspension? Since we have BMS-Training.pdf open (the whole reason the subject came up) we Ctrl-F and find “NWS.” Oh look, it means nosewheel steering. It doesn’t say this directly but this system allows the pilot to steer the nosewheel turning direction for the purposes of steering the airplane while on the ground. The training document doesn’t say how to do this, for that we’ll have to look up the airplane owner’s manual, (T.O. BMS 1F-16CM-1 or “Dash One” for short).
3. Steering the airplane on the ground is a non-combat F-16 flight operation and all non-combat flight we know (well now you do) is covered in the -1 manual. The PDF is opened and we search for “NWS” or “nosewheel steering” (note manual isn’t perfectly consistent, try “nose wheel” and “nose-wheel” as well). 1.13.1 is the section. “The NWS A/R MSL STEP button on the stick toggles NWS on and off.” Now we’re getting somewhere. We have to find this button so we search again. No results. Dang.
4. No matter we heard that this button is on the (joy)stick so let’s look at that. Search “stick” in -1. 1.2.5.2 SIDESTICK CONTROLLER. Sure why not. There’s a picture with button labels, trigger no, paddle switch what, weapon release no. Ah, “Missile Step/ Nose Wheel Steering/Aerial Refueling Disconnect/AG Toggle.” That must be the abbreviation NWS A/R MSL STEP spelled out. OK, I want to press that button but I touch the screen with my finger and nothing. Nothing is ever easy.
5. What is this list of “callback” below? SimMissileStep, that’s the closest match. OK if I manage to press this callback then that will active the button which will turn on NWS so I can avoid becoming a lawn mower. I remember that keyboard keys and joystick buttons are defined by a keyfile. I remember there is a manual for even that. OK open BMS Key File Manual.pdf. What a lovely manual but no “SimMissileStep.” Nuts. Ah, here’s another one BMS Keystrokes - Defaults.pdf. Search “SimMissileStep” jackpot! Shift, /.
6. Back in the cockpit, running the training again. “Engage NWS” Shift-/. NWS light is green on the right indicator. It’s done. OK now hold the wheel brakes while… what wheel brakes? Where’s the control? What key is it bound to? Where is that Flight Manual PDF again!?
