Hi guys, judging by this thread, some have had success with Win10 regarding the TM HOTAS Cougar. To facilitate a (manual) throttle calibration, I decided to download Foxy.
As per instructions at ‘Cougar Flyfoxy’, I cleared the TM firmware from the stick (to make way to input new firmware to the stick)……[note: no software came with the stick]
……
Attempting to download TM firmware to the stick with the HOTAS Cougar Update function, I encounter the following …… (the flightstick is connected, btw)
…………
I’m thinking that the problem has to do with the ‘Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar’ device status given by Win10, which is displayed with a warning label and with two status messages … 1.) Needs troubleshooting……2.) Driver is unavailable
……
Problem is, when I try to apply the fix (as provided for by Win10), I encounter messages telling me the drivers for this device are not installed … and … that there are no drivers for this device (verified on the TM site there are no drivers required).
…………
Does this mean then that I am unable to flash my stick after having just cleared it? lol … help! -
Well I had the Firmware not being able to flash back when Win 10 first came out. I do know you can get those inout drivers in your HOTAS Folder. but did you installe the 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1 program??
I never founfd a fix to FLASH the Cougar in Win10

“Device Not Connected” is a common and long-standing issue with the Cougar, but is (almost) always fixable. Basically the problem is that windows does not recognize that the Cougar USB device is connected. Try:
1. Uninstall and reinstall (as administrator) the correct 2007 driver program, as listed above. Ensure no install errors.
2. In Windows Device Manager, ensure all the HID, Keyboard and Mouse device drivers are properly installed with no errors.
3. Ensure Sttubedevice203.dll file resides in C:\Windows/SysWOW64. Then
4. Try connecting to different USB connectors directly on your motherboard, until the device is recognized by Windows. USB hubs can occasionally cause issues. -

I am addicted and I love it!

Nephilim, Habu … thank you kindly for your responses. No, Nephilim - I had installed the (3_HCO_2004.exe).
I corrected that by installing the (2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe). It took me awhile, and I’m not quite sure exactly how
I managed it, but long story short, I was able to get (Sttubedevice203.dll) into my Windows/SysWOW64. Referring to
other instructions I’d googled up on the subject, I found my ‘Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar’ device no longer had the
warning label attatched to it. And ultimately I was able to cleanse and reflash my flightick. I can try recreating my exact
steps for you if you want Nephillim, but I know now it is possible to do (yea, I covered a lot of territory today so I’m a
little foggy on my exact steps right now). I’m on to studying the Foxy manual presently cuz I’m still havin a quite time
of calibrating everything … but definitely progress here. Thanks guys, I thought I was ‘dead-in-the water’ there for a bit. -
Yes I would love to know how to flash the cougar in Win 10… I just tried it a minute ago and was not succesfull… I am unsure what to do but I hope you remember what you did and I can recreate your success…

What is the reason the Cougar is being reflashed?
On my Win 7 and 8.1 PCs, I’ve not had to do this for my Cougar
I did have to do it for my WartHog as its bios was old.Is it to do a master reset?

Hi, I have big Problems with my Cougar after the last Update of WIN 10. I installed the CCP und the drivers but when I would like to load CCP I get the error 14 warning. After that I flash the Cougar with unconnected throttle, but now, there will be no axis and button, or throttle working. The Cougar seems to be dead. What can I do now? It looks like, that windows10 doens´t recognized, that I plugged in a Stick and throttle. The Cougar is also not recongnized by the Thrustmaster Software.
Please, can you help?

Id try the Win7 compatibility mode when flashing and running the CCP, and turn off UAC.
Glad im on Win7

What is T.A.R.G.E.T. ??
-
Its the software to program the buttons on the cougar.
-
I may be getting a cougar, with the warthog stick and the FSSB-R1 mod. The throttle would be unmodded. I have a few questions about the cougar that I hope you guys can help me with.
1. Is it really hard to get it to work in windows 10? Reading all this stuff is making me nervous.
2. The seller told me that the mini stick doesn’t work “out of the box”. So after I install the drivers, load the profile, what would I need to do to get the mini stick to work?
-
To amplify: T.A.R.G.E.T. software from Thrustmaster is one way to program the Cougar. I personally prefer Foxy software, that installs along with the Cougar. Foxy does not need to run after the profile is downloaded to the HOTAS. With BMS, you don’t need any software to program the buttons, as one can simply assign within BMS the default Windows DX buttons to desired callbacks. Become friends with the BMS Keyfile Editor Manual
-
I’m inviting the bms keyfile editor manual over for coffee!:D
So are you saying that the cougar should work fine on windows 10, and that I don’t need to do anything to get the ministick to work except go to setup with the game?

The Warthog/Cougar SSC combo should function just fine with Windows 10 in BMS with a normal amount of setting up. I program the Cougar SSC in Foxy and the Warthog DX buttons in BMS. To get the mini-stick working I think I had to callibrate it in the Windows/Devices/Game Controllers applet. I think that prompts Windows to recognize the axes. Then assign axes to sim functions within BMS Advanced Controllers applet. “Doesn’t work” could mean, however, that it is mechanically defective and needs replacement.
-
The ministick does work, the seller just mentioned that he believed it doesn’t work right out of the box, that it needed some setup. I can definitely calibrate it.
I would have to program the cougar ssc though using foxy? The default profile that comes with bms won’t work? I guess I really wanted to avoid all that programming stuff.
I like that for my x52 I just downloaded a profile, followed the directions, and everything was good. Then I made a few changes with the falcon bms game, and it rocks.
Oh, and thanks Habu for all of this information. It is really helpful.

Any profile will work. The amount of customization is up to user.
