Flight Planning: Best way if using Helios (ie, small UI box top left of main screen)
-
Hello. My question has to do with flight planning if you are, like me, using a second screen for Helios which means your main UI interface is now severely limited to a small box in the top left of the main computer screen (because of having to tick not full screen in order to extract the guages to the second touchscreen).
Fundamental question; in this circumstance, what is the best way to do flight planning? Or to put it another way, how can one find a way to use a suitably sized and detailed map to assess the best ingress/egress routes, moving waypoints etc? I ask because the limitations of the main UI squeezed into a small box really complicate planning and make precision waypoint placement very difficult.

Is there a replacement map that can be used? WMD has a planning capacity but with my resolutions, (2560x1600), that map seems also very small from the look of it, and can WMD be used in any case to move waypoints and place new flight routes?

Does all that have to be done in the main BMS user interface? (which means back to the central, problem of a tiny map with poor graphics.

What is this ‘interactive map for KTO’ used for?
Grateful for any advice here. As I see it, upgrading the main flight planning UI map is one of the most pressing things left to do to really complete this superb sim.
Looking for for any useful advice/guidance.

I have the same problem and overcame it by using another PC (laptop) with a base install of BMS to do just mission builds only… no flying. I have WDP and MC on it, and I use dropbox to sync between them.

Dawgboy, thanks for that. ou use Dropbox, hey? Do you post up the mission TE file to the Dropbox folder when it is ready? is that how the sync works?

Yes. Exactly. And share with wingmen, too, so we all have the same TE mission files.

You do know you can “zoom in” the 2D map with the mouse scroll wheel, right?

Primarily to access airfield and airbase data. Charts, radio freq, etc etc

Thanks to all who’ve replied. Ice, yes, can zoom but the map, as you’d be aware, becomes a pixelated mess at low zoom levels. It’s more having a map crammed into a box in the top left of the computer screen that annoys and frustrates my mission planning. I run a Dell 30 at 2560x1600; great resolution and monitor but have to run in windowed mode and the downside is the UI crammed into a box in the upper left of the screen. I really like to go to town in my mission planning…not only adds immersion but also important to lessen the chances of being shot down! Do you use the map in WDP? Can this be a substitute?
Thanks Dawgboy and donw43. Appreciated.

Ah, fair enough. On a 30" screen with that res, yeah, the 2D UI will be tiny!
