Fallon-Nevada Theater discussion

Give me an idea of how big we may want this……and solidify the Center Coords.
Then i will give you free to DL’d 16Seg, 32Seg, 64Seg, 128Seg, 256Seg …Hell maybe even an 8Seg if we want to do “BlackOps”…LOL! -
Theater is NOT a problem. In fact all sizes of Nevada theather 16, 32 , 64 are plus/minus done. It is some special features in TE and BMS Editor we are kind of hoping for and waiting for.
This is not to say however, that if someone wants to do it - go ahead! -
Everyone gets beers on me if this theater gets done. CONUS and I can do a gear up landing on the strip!!!

Ok, I got Ted’s 16 segment theater installed and working and he is absolutely correct. As soon as you take off from Fallon you’re looking right off the edge of the map. Again, I was considering 16 segments from a gameplay perspective, not a “what it looks like outside” perspective. As it stands, 16 segments really won’t work from a visual- suspension of disbelief- aspect.
After consideration, I’d say make the terrain 32 or 64 segments. 64 is probably easiest. I don’t know if 32 will be big enough to capture the entire draw distance at altitude.
Still, 16 segments is the right size for gameplay and number of objectives, linking, etc. It just looks like shit once you see the end of the earth out of the canopy.
-
Having said all that, I’m kind of in a mood to be creative. I might screw around with Ted’s theater a bit today and see what the gameplay feels like anyway. Maybe I’ll just crank the weather down a bit…kinda an October Fulda Gap scenario…

Glad we agree! Again, ATM Nevada will have to be pushed back until some new techiques are available. At the same time I also think that new availability of new planes would help this project quite well. It is not going to happen in 2-3 weeks so let us be patient - meanwhile, there are some other projects in the pipeline.

Any news…?? Any progress?

I really wish Nevada could be finished…although first we have to dispute Snakeman’s dubious claim to it.How valid is this claim, or dubious is it? This is tread related to Nevada and we could continue this discussion here.

Well therein lies some old Falcon drama. And I dont recall off hand.

I would guess, having not bought the payware version of this theater, that there is a significant amount of material contributed by others over the years in the payware theater. So, I don’t see how one person is in the right saying that others cannot use “his” work while at the same time that person may be using, and profiting from, other people’s work.
I’ve always thought the whole claim was bullshit. But, I also understand the reluctance of a website wanting to host that material (or links to that material) that could cause trouble with their website provider.
We have come so much farther than we were back in the PMC days that we’re in many ways better off. We’re seeing much better products now than were ever hosted over there. I think that’s because we as a community were forced to stop taking shortcuts and do the hard work ourselves. But, it has slowed development. At this point I’d be pretty happy with a working copy of the old Europe or Nevada theaters because nobody seems to want to make them.

Mike,
As has been stated by you, Mower and others……that whole claim is BS.(I’ve proved that, as when he was freely given the chance to sue me, he declined…me amused?..yes.)
I countered that the Libya theater he was trying to sell was authored by me and the original author (with his permission) and he had no rightful claim to it. He quickly removed it from his “For Sale” list…after his slanderous attack on myself and my family……chuckle…so be it.
As Mower stated Falcon Drama, I’m not into that. But on the other hand he did put countless hours into PMC\Falcon for free, when others went the profit way.
That is not to say he did it alone and should be payed for it. Not at all.
There were MANY including myself and you who contributed FREELY to those work’s.
His self indulgence of his own ego may have got the best of him, sorry to say.
As far as Nevada\Europe Theaters san’s PMC for BMS…they are in the works and have been by others for some time now.
Psst……you want a MAP and ADD-ON Theater san’s PMC…call demer he’ll set you up…Mother Dave

Hey Demer, ready to help test Guam again, sir. Pm was sent a few days ago.

Dave,
I totally understand. What is frustrating is that so many of us used PMC as a hub and foundation for our work. To be essentially shut out of all that work unexpectedly is (or was) frustrating in the extreme. You work with someone for a couple of years and then that happens…it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.I’d estimate we’ve lost a good two years rebuilding from that debacle. In many ways I think we’re better off long term because our creativity is no longer being shoehorned into those preconceived theaters. On the other hand, well, to use a real-world example, one of the first things I did after BMS became public was to convert over my Kurile theater to BMS. And it worked to some extent. It wasn’t the next coming of ITO, but with some fluffing by the experts here I’ll bet we could have had it done a year or more ago, and by that I mean completely finished. But now it’s going to languish until somebody decides to start from scratch. Which I hope they don’t because there are more interesting conflicts we should model like Vietnam or Europe, not Kuriles, not South America, not Chile.

If anyone wants this, I’ll find a way to make it available, if it is legal to distribute
This version of Nevada you have was , as I believe, BMS version of PMC theater. BMS made all necessary changes to adopt it for BMS structure, add some few elements of UI etc.etc. Subsequently PMC “came of the woodwork” and decided to go on its own, did what BMS added earlier, and eventually published it as a exclusively his payware. He did that with several other theaters , which as a result of his action are now of the limits. Mind you that irony of that all is that those theaters are not in working conditions and just based on that IMHO PMS is guilty of false advertising and milking unaware customers by luring them to boy half baked and pretty useless products. How do you know that - because I spent myself quite substantial time on Nevada theater and know first hand how unfinished that was.
This is my understanding of under laying conflict and pretty sad way of wasting precious time resources without advancing general Falcon cause and progress even and inch forward. My 2c. -
Question:
Who made the PMC terrain? Is it Snakeman?
Because if the core terrain of RedFlag is not from Snakman himself, maybe we could ask the original creator the clearance to use his work … or even ask him to restart the stuff.
What is really needed to get a new Nevada theater for BMS?
Terrain: Need the core terrain
Texture: Need someone to provide a nice texture set
Tactical Engagement: need the base file te_new.tac
Campaigns: Not needed (at least in a first time)
UI: Not a problem … use BMS one
Database: Not needed … can use Korea stock DBWhat else?
-
Already working on this Dee-Jay and we got a way around the PMC thing. Demer is currently working with us on this and we have some other resources that will be implemented. So basically 3 to 4 weeks……:D
-
I can provide some vid footage for campaigns is you want.
-
Sure but Campaign is not going to be out of the box, like you said only need TE for now.
-
I’m happy to work on some campaigns…I might need A.S and those guys to provide some tips as I don’t seem to remember how to do this to the community’s standards LOL. But I need something that is working so I can place units. Once I have to start editing terrain I’m lost.

Deej,
Sit down, take a breath and relax……!!! LOL…
TOTALLY forget PMC\Snakeman for the last time on ANY BMS theater going forward.
As I have stated, he tried to sue me over Libya and lost, forced him to remove it from his “For Sale” list.
You CANNOT hold\own rights to a “concept” in the real world, only “content” that has\will be removed from this Nevada concept!!!
Get it???Cheers,
Dave
P.S. As far as the stock DB, I think they’ll do better
