Tacview 1.8.7 is now available!
Download: https://tacview.net/download
I know, I know, it’s been a while since a new stable build of Tacview has been released! This is because I am working a lot on Tacview 2, plus I wanted to implement as many of your requests as possible in this 1.8.7 release. It is hard to know when to stop.
At last, everybody can now enjoy more than six months of updates for all simulators as well as real-life flights including new 3D models, new maps, new weapons, improved exporters, improved importers, more accurate telemetry numbers in all phases of flight, new visual options, and more options for dedicated servers.
This year, Tacview was notably used for Volfa 21 debriefings (a French / NATO military exercise spanning several weeks). Following the exercise, we have implemented a multitude of little fixes and improvements which will benefit everybody concerning stability and ergonomics for tactical debriefings. Other improvements, which require more (re)work of the code, will be integrated later in Tacview 2.
This new version also brings native ADS-B radio signal recording via a USB dongle and an antenna! Which means that you can now see flights taking place over your head, without any Internet connection or ADS-B server account. This first implementation will be improved depending on how popular this tool will be.
The terrain engine has also been pushed to its limits to display even more detailed textures and elevation data. Four times more accurate than before, to be specific. Pushing the engine so much revealed several display bugs (high frequency noise, holes, junction errors…) which have been fixed in this version. The framerate should remain similar to previous versions of Tacview. It is only when you are providing high-resolution textures for specific places, that (a lot) more memory and CPU will be required.
All the best from Vyrtuoz & BuzyBee

Hi team,
I’ve started to notice a frustrating bug with the chart windows which I use frequently to analyze performance. You can see here that regardless of how I scale the charts, certain fast objects will be cut off on the vertical axis. It attempts to scale to a certain point, but always cuts off around Mach 2 or equivalent airspeeds. This is a new issue that did not occur in previous versions of Tacview.
Thanks for your attention.

@vyrtuoz Really useful software, I bought a licence, great stuff!

Hi, I couldn’t reproduce the issue of the y-axis being cut off at Mach 2. Could you please share your VHS file?

<p>Hello!<br /><br />There is a bug I noticed lately. I am using a double monitor setup. Most of the times that I run Tacview, I load video recordings too. So, when I try to extend the Tacview window for example to have the 3d view on one side and the videos on the other, the software freezes for a few moments and then crashes. <br /><br />It would be very helpful for me if this could be corrected in some way, and the software could work extended on multiple screens.<br /><br />Many thanks in advance!</p>
-
<p>Hi Atsalis,<br /><br />This sound like a silly bug, Tacview should not crash when used in this manner with multiple monitors.<br /><br />When Tacview crashes, do you get a crash dump? You should get a message box from Tacview explaining the crash and displaying where to find the report.<br /><br />Should be a <span class=“ql-font-monospace”>*.dmp</span> file in the folder <span class=“ql-font-monospace”>%temp%\Tacview</span></p>
-
<p>Atsalis,<br /><br />I confirm that I am not able to reproduce the crash (or freeze) with two videos playing back over several monitors.<br /><br />Also, I would like to correct my previous email, with Tacview 1.x, the crash dump is the file:<br /><br /><span class=“ql-font-monospace”>%TEMP%\XtraLib-CrashReport.dmp</span><br /><br />If you only have a freeze (program not responding) instead of crash, then you may have another bug not related to videos.</p>
-
<p>Hello guys!<br /><br />I am back with interesting news… Finally the problem had nothing to do with Tacview. After your previous answers I was worried because I had no crash dump file. I could understand that something else might have happened, besides Tacview. When I changed some basic Win10 settings like Display Settings, resolution, Scale and Layout, the program works perfect when stretched to the second screen and it plays many videos synchronized perfectly!<br /><br />Vyrtuoz, many thanks and sorry for the false alarm! </p>
-
<p>@Atsalis <br /><br />It’s great to hear your problem has been solved.<br /><br />Out of curiosity, could you remember which settings were triggering the issue? I can’t help but wonder if the bug was in Tacview code or in a video playback codec…</p>
-
<p>@Vyrtuoz <br /><br />Of course I can try to reproduce it, but I am away from the machine for the next 10 days. In general terms it has something to do with the desktop settings but I cannot be more precise until I am back. I will let you know!<br /></p>

Tacview 1.8.8 is now available!
Download: https://tacview.net/download
I know, it’s been six months since the last update… This is because I am now focused on Tacview 2 development: Currently working the brand new 2D/3D Vulkan/Metal renderer which – ultimately – should offer much higher performance compared to Tacview 1. Don’t know how much faster yet, but the goal is to be able to display millions synthetic buildings and trees on the ground, so any action taking place low and slow (from tanks to helicopters), will have a nicely detailed debriefing.
Meanwhile, in parallel, with the help of BuzyBee, we are continuing to update Tacview 1 content, fixing bugs, and developing news addons to help you with everyday flights as well as special events streaming.
I still cannot promise any release data for Tacview 2, be assured that I am working hard on it!
Happy flights!

Hello Vyrtuoz,
I couldn’t reproduce the issue that I reported, perhaps it could be some strange combination of settings I cannot recall.
For now on everything works as it should. If for any reason I get the same issue again, I will let you know what exactly is happening.
Many thanks! -
Forgive the noob question, but after a cursory search I haven’t found much info on how to activate real-time telemetry. Any specific location (website) to look at? Or is it just too new at present time??
Cheers,

JollyHi, if you have Tacview 1.9.0 beta 1 https://www.tacview.net/download/beta/ you should be able to connect by going to Recording -> Falcon 4 Real Time Telemetry …
It is in the preliminary stages but you should be able to see your aircraft moving in Tacview in real-time.
You would be helping us out if you let us know of any strange behavior you notice!
