What am I looking for in order to switch between different gun modes on the fly without having to push OSB 2 on DF SMS page. Not sure if there is a hotas function I can’t find but I would think it would be… Any help appreciated. Thanks

Actually, there is no HOTAS function associated with that. You can check all HOTAS function on the dash-1, and they are also reminded at the beginning of the-34, BTW 😉

Usually you pick one at ramp and stick with it.

Depends on the AC, the block, etc. M2000s, for ex, only have SNAP.

Thanks I guess I’ll have to map the OSB but wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking something…now are there any docs that break down how and when each mode is best suited, symbology and such?

EEGS is well described in the MCH included in your docs folder.

Its also applicable any time you are taking a gunshot within the gun envelope.

EEGS works well in game too.

EEGS imho is the best mode. The others can be useful but from my experience you get the most consistent and reliable kills, especially when tracking vs snap shots ect however EEGS is still extremely useful even high aspect in the visual arena. That is my goto mode hands down.

It certainly depends on the specific Block, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some F-16 gun camera footage where the sight mode was LCOS.

I’ve seen some HUD footage of snap mode too and always made me wonder why they selected that over EEGS since it is a little but of work to change the modes in a dogfight. I’m sure the other modes are going to be Block or even tape specific.

While we are here, anybody ever take the time to notice exactly what range Smart Scaling turns off? I know to get the most accurate EEGS you should have the correct wingspan programmed but I’ve also wondered about Smart Scaling throwing that off too since the BMS manual shows a big size difference still at even .7 NM, which with the new number of rounds and improved ammo simulations should be well in range for a lot of situations. Even if it throws off EEGS at some ranges, I want what Smart Scaling brings to the table more. Way back when in one of the RPs or early source code mods I tested it off and on and the pixel widths of wings were about the same inside of a mile but that was at much lower resolutions than we run today…

I guess below .7 NM is the where effectiveness of smart scaling exponentially decreases as manual says

Smart scaling is not linear and will increase the
size of distant objects more than it will increase the size of close objects.

and such a range is also a usual range to use gun in my experience.

Sorry this is all my supposition and I have to try some tests when I have time…
