Sourcing 8" usb lcds
-
Circa 2016.
After some research i now know, that those Lilliput displays were going for 40-50 usd in days of past.
Now they ask 110usd per one, and that’s direct from factory.
What am i missing here? I decided against using one monitor/lcd for both mfds. Like them one for each hand.
Thanks in advance, ready to order. Back being falcon sick. What a buzz! -
I use similar TFT LCD and board like this with a VGA to DVI adapter.
-
+1…er…2 of 'em.
-
my concern is that vga monitors will put extra load on my gpu, whereas usb lcds will not. or am i wrong?
-
They are the same thing…USB is USB, so if you are concerned about loading your GPU then both will do the same…
…but personally, I think this to be a myth - because the converters themselves are individual GPUs to convert the USB data to VGA, and your GPU card has nothing to do with feeding data to USB…and USB data are USB data. So if there is any “loading” to be done it’s going to be tasking your CPU. Have a nice fast one…with more cores.

USB video adapters are notorious for using copious amounts of CPU resources since the actual GPU functionality is virtualized, not to mention the bandwidth limits inherent with earlier gen USB.

Much better to use just about any old vid card as a second video source for cockpit instruments. Small LCD’s can be powered from an extra 12v (or maybe it is 5v?) line from the PC power supply, so long as it has sufficient watts.

People have been suggesting that USB 3.0 VGA adapters work better than USB 2.0 ones. Since I’ve also read that some controllers have issues with USB 3.0 (even though USB 3.0 is supposed to be backwards compatible) my plan is to use USB 3.0 for my VGA adapter only, and put everything else on USB 2.0. And more cores, more better…

Care to share the exact models you are going for? All i can find is super exnesive lilliputs

I use these -
And these -
7" LCDs actually fit behind Thrustmaster MFD bezels far better than 8" ones.
-
Ok. for the time being decided to go with a couple of 8in win8 tablets from china (50-60usd per one). Working great with MFDE, no noticeable fps drop!

I have been using these which fit perfectly behind the TM MFD Frame with the support struts down

“7” LCDs actually fit behind Thrustmaster MFD bezels far better than 8" ones. " varies from screen to screen. Sellers such as chinatobby provide alongside their screen product info, details of the viewable screen dimensions. Ive certainly known people with annoying gaps between picture and mfd edges. Does the job even so of course. If space is available 8" 4:3 guarantees coverage.
If somedashboard
arrangement is intended then getting a larger and widescreen format display might provide left mfd+ rwr mounted vertically. -
Hi Lynzoid
You could try a seach on the Viperpits forum or take a look at the lcd’s from Chinatobby at ebay. Chinatobby has a vast collection of any size you’ll find usefull. Service and delivery is top notch
The above link is for a 7 inch display (fits perfect to Trustmasters mfds) but do a seach and you should find whatever size or dimension you prefer.
Best regards
ZoomOut;)edit: Sorry, just noticed that Jetlag and CobaltUK already mentioned Chinatobby…
Anyway…… depending on the connection you want you can always use a vga-usb, hdmi-usb or displayport-usb converter if you go for the usb solution.
As far as resolution goes 800x600 is more than enough for mfds so no need to go for a higher res. (sould also help keeping the pricetag down);)

Hey zoomout some posting say you don’t need a touch monitor is that correct? I intend to use thrustmaster target software and BMS extraction do andwhat else is needed to display MFD pages. MFD still in the mail trying to determine monitor size real need 7" or 8" to fit MFD’s.

If you’re going to use Trustmasters MFD’s I don’t see the need for touch-screens. In regard to TARGET I have very little (if any) experience in using the software, but I know that it cowers the setup of Trustmasters MFD’s (as well as The Cougar and Warthog sticks and thottles).
The beauty of BMS thoug, is that you don’t really need TAGET for programming your MFD’s. It can be done in the UI or by editing your preffered keyfile. If you don’t have any experience in editing BMS keyfiles, you’ll find that some of the files in the default install already have them implemented. (Can’t remember the exact location, but take a look in some of the documentation in the BMS install).
In regard to monitor size…. 7" (800x600) is a good fit for Trustmaster MFD’s
Best regards

+1 for 7" LCDs.

I use 9" LCD’s at 768x1280 resolution. Room for the MFD’s and fuel, RWR and a few other small displays.
