IKAROS V3 Patch1 TE: Air 2 Air Refuelling with a few SAMs thrown in
-
Hi folks,
now that I’ve finally managed to solve my MFDE issues in this theater, I’m back to creating TEs again which tends to be much more fun, thankfully.
Here’s a slightly updated version of my previous AAR practise mission which now includes several SAM batallions placed in the vicinity of Crete for you so you can also practise SAM avoidance and SEAD / DEAD stuff (hopefully, AAR will seem very relaxing in comparison to you after enough practise ;-))
Map of the area:
As you can see, we have an SA-2 on Karpathos, an SA-3 to the south, an SA-6 near Santorini and an old, aging SA-5 to the northwest guarding the mainland coastal region.
I’ve specially marked the SA-10 to the Northeast so you’ll avoid that area if you want to live. You can also directly select the installations by using the PPT steerpoints 60-64 (see the map above for proper PPT designations).
Feel free to use the makeshift “range” at Sitia airport to the East of the island. As the airport is going to be rebuilt, local authorities have granted permssion to use it as a live weapons range, although live fire is only allowed within the marked PPT box.
AWACS & several types of F-16 are available, and things will get busy around 0600Z or so at the tanker track, so better get there early!

Have fun,
Uwe
EDIT: UPDATE version 003 adds another F-16CM Blk 52 at Iraklion airport, also added some more flights to make things more interesting. Also changed weather back to “probabilistic”.

Bravo Uwe,
Keep your nice work ;).

Told in short: +1.
Thanks a lot for sharing it, hoover, I’m interested in SEADing.
With best regards,
-
Thanks guys, I hope you enjoy flying in this beautiful region (although it’s become a bit more dangerous given the recent surge in SAM presence there ;-))
I flew a SEAD mission out of Kasteli on the SA-3 last night, using an ingress below 1,000 feet and noticed that the radar only became active at the very last moment after a couple of flybys over the small island there… as the “low blow” wasn’t to be found at the coords the “recon” screen provided (imagine my surprise ;)), I had to do a bit of TGP searching first before I spotted the radar, managing to take it out using a CBU-87. I’ll check out the other SAM units to see if they go active a bit earlier.
All the best, Uwe
EDIT: You might want to change the weather model to “map” or “probabilistic” as I set it to “deterministic” when checking out the airbases on Crete the other day.

Dear Uwe,
thanks a lot once more also for the interesting flight report and your tips… it’s time now, for me, to have a deeper look to your TE’s tactical scenery. I couldn’t ask for better!
With best regards,
Gianni. -
changed d/l link to v003 in first post, some more flights added, weather changed back to probabilistic, also added a new F-16CM squadron at Irakion airport.
I just flew a SEAD mission targeting the SA-2 on Karpathos, great fun. I chose an asymmetric layout (one AGM88, 2xCBU87) for my a/c and getting the trim right was quite, er, interesting
The Fan Song E lit up before we arrived at the engagement zone, so it was rather easy to send my HARM on its way towards the search radar.
All the best, Uwe

- To say the least

- No! Why? What a pity, if it didn’t this would have been really intesting
Uwe, just for kidding, of course. But the same I have to find out soon the way to put all things in their natural order, that stuff have been payed with the taxpayers’ bucks
