Shared memory documentation

Just tried this out and it is freakin’ awesome! It takes some setting up, but once that’s done, it’s pretty much bulletproof.
The android client lost connection once, but fixing that is just a case of hitting “connect” again.
I found that 40% JPEG gave a good compromise between response time and quality, although A-G radar gets quite “muddy”. Still, it helped me to focus more on flying because I didn’t have to look down in the pit so much!
Thanks to all in this thread for the various hints - these made setup relatively easy. Thanks especially to JShepherd for writing the apps!
-
Vaughan, try switching off JPG (remove tick mark) and it will use PNG format, much smoother, better picture, (for me anyway).

Doesn’t work for me. Tried it 2 times.
-
No news from Jshepherd if there will be an ICS compatible version.
-
reboot, the PNG option looks great, but I found the refresh quite slow, which made “realtime” type displays like HSD, TGP & radar quite jerky.
Any way to adjust the resolution of the MFD picture at the Android end?
-
I also tried all of the center pedestal gauges and it was very slow and jerky, but the MFD’s are smooth as silk.

what are you meaning by “resolution”, size or picture quality?
if its quality then try increasing the size of the gauges that falcon produces, but if you make them to large then things will start slowing down. -
Vaughan, or anyone else, could you make a small test for me!
Test 1: setup one MFD with a size of 256x256 pixels and then write down the FPS in instant action.
Test 2: do the same test again but with a setting like this, -256
the mfd will be completely off screen but Jshepaerds APP can still find it.
the test is to see if having MFD’s off screen has an influence on FPS,
this is for testing Falcon, not sheperds APP. -
reboot,
I’ve just run the two tests as you’ve asked and the results are below. Each test was done with only the Left MFD being extracted. To try and keep the tests fair, I loaded up TE02 - Takeoff, sat on the tarmac and looked one step down in the pit, using keystrokes 2, J (BMS.key). FPS measurement is done with FRAPS because I couldn’t seem to get the BMS FPS display working - tried Ctrl Z, R - no effect.
Test 1
Left: 0
Top: 0
Width: 256
Height: 256FPS ranges between 33 and 35.
Test 2
Left: -256
Top: 0
Width: 256
Height: 256FPS ranges between 30 and 31.

Thanks vaughan, but I was expecting the results to be the other way round, never mind.
at the moment my computer is dead and I only have the wife’s PC to play with, so I can’t do the tests myself.
Over at Viperpits Yoda, (GiGurra) has continued this topic over there, take a look.

Hi Vaughan, I’ve just been experimenting with the size of MFD’s in BMS, and I think I’ve found something interesting,
If I set the left export MFD to exactly 225x225 pixels, then I get (over on the android) a perfect image, perfect lettering,
now If I use just one pixel more, or less “224x224” or “226x226” then the image get’s spoilt and the lettering is bleary,
if you have time then try this, the results are very impressive.
BTW, i’ve switched off “Double Resolution Cockpit Displays”

Sorry to Necro-Post, but the link for PSGauges is no longer working!
Could someone repost a link to the download please?
EDIT:
Little Google research brought me this link:
http://psfalcon.blogspot.com/2011/10/ps-udp-falcon-server-for-android-22.htmlSite has the updated files.
Got the program working on my little Android phone. Now I have an RWR, DED, and PFD displays for my poor-man’s pit.

HI guys:
Just testing the app on my Xperia Arc with ICS and everything were smooth until I tried to start a mission.

I’ve been lurking on this thread for while, so I though I should share my recent experience:
I bought a cheap 7" android (ICS) tablet from China (just arrived yesterday)
Downloaded iDisplay for my PC (gaming laptop with nvidia 360M card)
Sprung for the $5 android iDisplay app
Fired up MFDE and moved the gauges to the virtual desktop (above my 2nd monitor)
Spun up my personal F-16…. lovely gauges “appeared” on my tablet!!!Set-up time ~ 10-15 minutes
NO HIT TO FPS (that I can tell)!!!
-
What about displaying MFD on the tablet? I have tried running iDisplay on my cell phone, but all I got was just slideshow.
Where did you buy it?
-
MFDs (both of them) work …. not sure what you mean by a slideshow … it forms another desktop extension
IDisplay came from the Google Market, I bought the tablet at aliexpress.com

Hey Guys,
I tried to connect my tablet but there’s no way.Error-message:

Is this the famous “ERROR-50” (50cm in front of the Monitor…)?
I hope, someone can help me
Regards
MadDoc
PS I only want to Display the pedestral-gauches

I think this problem is the IPv6 address of your tablet. I have the same issue. Read somewhere that the solution is to manually change the IP address of the tablet to a fixed IPv4 address.

Hi pilots,
could anyone give me please header file for FalconIntellivibeSharedMemoryArea?
