JSOWs in 4.32

In 4.32 the JSOWs are fired same way as mavs as they’re not properly implemented. So was wondering if anyone knows how these are presumed to be guided? electro optical like the AGM-65A or IR? they are in RL (and in 4.33) guided by INS/GPS then weather wouldnt be an issue, but obviously if i cant see what i’m firing at then i cant fire them in VIS or BORE mode. But i should still be able to fire them with the FCR in PRE mode. But still in bad weather such as low cloud cover and low dense fog, i wont be able to see anything on the WPN seeker page.
Bottom line is with locking up a contact on the FCR will i still be able to fire at it in bad weather? for this upcoming SEAD strike i cant set TGT steerpoints in recon as the exact location of the AAA Btn isnt known on the map but i know the Btn will be on or around steer 5 so it should just be a case of locking up contacts exactly on or just around steer 5 and engaging them if i cant first check what i’m targeting on the WPN page with bad weather.
Another thing thats’ baffled me is that i’ve been playing the JSOW TE in 4.32 and i couldnt seem to fire the JSOW till about 5 or so nm from the target. Which i know isnt right as they have a max range of 60nm depending on altitude and airspeed of the jet. I just watched a guy on you tube drop these from 25nm out (playing 4.32) with the caret being still well above the indexer. Surely that indicates he’s not within range? yet he fires them and they hit the target. That vid has also answered my original question now as he fired the JSOWs without having a clear picture of the target on the WPN page. But still he used target steerpoints to drop them in PRE mode so what if i cant set target steers? will it still work in PRE mode if i lock up the contacts on the FCR? i noticed he doesnt lock the contacts up on his FCR, just sets the steerpoint, uncages and pickles.

You can drop them on static targets that you have set before take off from above the cloud base. Range will be affected by your altitude and probably speed. I drop normally from 20+k and range is 15-20 miles depending. You can set new targets into your JSOW with the fcr

In 4.32 one could fire a regular Maverick without a lock and it would go close to the aimpoint. I think the 4.32 JSOW works in a similar way, perhaps more accurately.
You absolutely can fire a 4.32 JSOW without any visual contact with the target through the video. Whatever sensor coding there is doesn’t care about weather or even terrain. It’ll work against impromptu targets just the same as a Maverick. You might want to SOI MAV and TMS forward before firing. I don’t know if that helps/is-required for long range JSOW shots.
You don’t have to go FTT/MTT for the designated aimpoint to be at the FCR cursors, both in 4.32 and 4.33. Since I believe 4.32 JSOWs are basically firing an unlocked Maverick one doesn’t need to lock to get SOI over the “Mav” to get a point track.

Yea i’ve been experimenting with the JSOW TE. What baffles me though is how the caret is well above the indexer indicating i’m out of range but still can fire and hit the target- so theres’ no way of knowing if you’ll hit the target at the range you want to hit it at and with your altitude/airspeed. But i’ll just go for what works. I was hitting targets at angels 30 from 25nm out. I might reduce that range a bit to say 20nm and angels 25 in my next campaign sortie as its’ hard to get up to and maintain 30,000 feet being close to max weight for the a/c. For angels 30 i’d have to be in full burner.

The whole 4.32 JSOW is a complete kludge, a rule of thumb for energy-range I see you’re handling is what you need. Feel free to make MAXAB sprints for standoff weapons delivery.

in 4.33 they sure look good

Hows’ your fps for playing 4.33? and what graphics settings do you have it at? nice pic i can really see the difference in graphics in that from 4.32.
