Third MFD
-
Hi
I am a cockpit builder, and i am working in a project with a layout a little bit different than the F-16 panel, but still using the BMS software. I need to use an extra MFD (third). I have seen that in most of keystroke profiles, already exist a list of buttons to assign to an extra mfd (third) but i never found how to activate or show this third MFD. I normally use the default mfd extractor to extract the mfds 1 and 2 to an external monitor but in this default extractor there is not a third mfd option, only 1 and 2. The “Mfd Extractor” software gives me the option to use up to 4 mfds, but the Mfds from this extractor doesn’t work… looks like only static displays! Please help me to find how to activate the third Mfd even 4.32 or 4.33! Thank you so much friends… -
Hello,
thats a very interesting fact. I built a cockpit too. It’s also a little bit different from the viper. More like a hornet cockpit from the point of layout. So I have 3 MFD’s too. As I’m right in the middle of building, I have only tested if I could exctract the left and the right MFD to my TFT screen behind my main panel. Never tested the third MFD, which is a small 5,4’’ TFT, I want to use for map display, like in the hornet.
Which MFD-Extractor from Lightning you are using? I have downloaded 0.6.1.1 which is the latest version as far as I know. But, don’t ask ;), I’ve never tested it, cause at the moment I’m building other things in the pit and had no time for it. I had the hope this software could be the solution. But now you say that it shows only static displays.
Mmhh, look’s like another problem I have to face with

What Air craft are you flying, it will most likely need to be equipped with 3 MFD
-
Yeah, i am using v 0.6.1.1 !!
Check this print! This is how they are displayed! And when i start the BMS flights , they continue showing that static image!
-
Thank you !
Well… the BMS default extractor options, used before we launch the BMS give us the chance to activate only 2 MFDs regardless of what air craft we are going to fly!

Hi Hangar
Have you had a look at Display Map or Lightnings Center Pidestal Display (iirc that’s the name - but not sure)?http://www.viperpits.org/smf/index.php/topic,9766.0.html
I don’t know if its compatible with 4.33 but try to have a look in the Viperpits Forums. Both systems are discussed there.
Best regards.

I have used Lightnings Center Pedestal Display and Works OK on 4.33.1.
Third MFD will be sweeeeet.

Still didn’t answer the question.
You tell me which Airframes in BMS use a third functional MFD.
I don’t think there is one.
And if you cant get MFDE to work then you haven’t explored all it options pages and finished setting it up.

ZoomOut:)Thank you so much! I installed the Lightnings CPD (Center Pedestal) and it works perfectly with 4.33…
I didn’t know that it exists!
Maybe the CPD can solve my problem…
There are some options that show MFDs pages (left or right) on the CPD screen, but when you press the relative button , nothing appears. Maybe this function doesn’t work…
Thanks!!

Well… my project is to build some generic aircraft simulator panels to provide BVR training for a group of fighter pilots!
I thought in do not follow the appearance of the F-16, and to make it a little different i suggested them to use 3 MFDs and use 3 different pages on each one…Similar the F-18.
Anyway… i checked the CPD extractor and works very well… Maybe can help me!
Thanks

A friend here suggested me the Lightning CPD (center pedestal) and works fine! Maybe it is a solution for hornets pits, as you can use the center display as map, and on lightning CPD you can assign the range in/out buttons etc…
Thanks

But if you can’t do it in the Airframe that is modeled in BMS then it cant be displayed by MFDE as it is only reading from a shared memory location.
So no you cant have “other pages” displayed on the third MFD as Falcon is not programed to render all possible pages at the same time.
-
Mmhh,
I’ve never been able to fly a lot with bms the last few years, so my knowledge is only based on things I’ve read or heard about. I know that’s not the right way to build a pit, but I don’t have much time to build my dream of the last twenty years. So I’ve have to do it this way.
Had planed a third MFD long ago. Another aspect is that I want to use the pit with other sims too. But if there is no way to display a different page on the third mfd than on the others, Shadow is right, with his comment, that it makes no sense to use it in falcon bms.
As I heard from BMS 4.33 I thought some things relating to other aircraft like the hornet or the harrier have changed, cause they are stock of 4.33 and no mod any more. But as far as I’ve seen now they are still the F-16 under the hood, only the look is different. So its clear why no real other avionics are modeled.
As I said, I do not know enough of bms, but correct me if I’m wrong, the fact is, that the original code was never meant to simulate a different model other than the F-16. That’s why it is complicated respectively impossible to do.

A lot of them actually if they were to incorporate the “Modern” cockpit configurations. The F15E, F18, F22, E Model F16s if they get incorporated, F35, and a whole slew of others…granted the 22 and 35 don’t have AFM and full pits in BMS and E model 16s not even attempted, but that wasn’t what you asked. Almost every remaining aircraft in the USAF inventory is undergoing an avionics modernization program to remove most of the “Mechanical” instrumentation in the cockpit and move it to an MFD if they have a service life extended past the next 5 years. Critical avionics required to navigate during power loss will still remain, but a 3rd MFD is certainly not unheard of, and it’s rapidly becoming the norm.

You misunderstand my question, as it relates to which Air frame in BMS is He expecting to be able to export the third MFD for.
As far as I know none have a ingame functional third MFD yet. So there is nothing to export.

You are correct I misunderstood your question. My question then is does the code support the 3rd/4th MFDs yet? I have seen the callbacks or commands in the Controller Setup (I’m assuming they have callbacks attached to them), but if someone were so inclined to create a pit with a 3rd MFD would it function–Graphics Engine-wise? I’m sure this has been discussed somewhere before, and someone will either tell me to RTFM or go scour the forums…
Does the shared memory push the DATA out or does it push the IMAGE for the MFDs? I know there is a lot of “Data” that gets pushed, but specifically concerning the MFDs what does it push? I’m not at home so I can’t go look at the header file.

I’d like to dig up this thread. For some testing I would also like to know if in current BMS release (4.33U2) there is any airplane modelled with a 3rd working MFD (either in 3Dpit or at least in shared memory textures)?
