Display Extraction Questions
-
Me again. Looking forward to getting home and firing up BMS.
I’m reading up on display extraction and trying to work out which is the best/cheapest in terms of hardware requirements. I’d like to use my Nexus 6P phone as an ICP, and I wouldn’t mind getting some Cougar MFDs and attaching them to my old battered netbook for MFD interaction.
Is what I’m after possible? Does it just require various extraction tools with BMS in full screen windowed mode?
Thanks!

I use Touchcontrol to extract the ICP to my iPad and control it with the iPad. Works great, I wouldn’t want to do without it!

Thanks. Is it iOS only? I can’t see any apps with that name that look like they would deal with BMS or display extraction…

Just ICP. For MFD extraction I use MFDextractor.

No rush, thank you for the help
I don’t have any MFD hardware yet, so the ICP extraction to a mobile device is what I’m keen on the most for now

A lot easier to use number pad for icp than grapple with small device jabbing at tiny active areas. There are a number of android apps for phones and pads.

Have you tried this thread/app? Android based so should be OK for Nexus

Got my display extraction set up
Got myself a basic laptop, and I’m using spacedesk to use the laptop as a second screen on my PC. It’s hooked up via a gigabit switch so the lag is almost zero. Works and looks really good!
I’ll get some photos up tomorrow. I keep forgetting I now have displays in the cougar MFDs and am still looking at the 3D pit!

I’m aware of dlls that can be installed to stop the rendering of instruments in game, but is there a way of stopping only the MFDs being rendered in the pit but have them viewable on the extracted windows? I’m trying to force myself to use the new MFD displays. Out of habit, I’m not looking at the laptop with nice large, clear displays right in front of me, but am instead still looking at the main screen.

Don’t worry, that will change quite quickly when you no longer have to look at the 3D cockpit MFDs and work out which button on your Cougar MFDs you need to press
There is no way afaik to not render the MFDs; even if you toggle the empty cockpit shell (BMS Manual p123) the instruments are still rendered, just not displayed. If my understanding of the software is correct they have to be rendered, otherwise there wouldn’t be anything in the shared memory area to display on the external screens.

Makes perfect sense, thanks.
Can’t wait to get my HOTAS properly sorted so I can start training with you guys!

hi ….can you please explain me what exactly are you doing to extract the icp and control it with the iPad thank you
-
I don’t think you can ‘extract’ the ICP as there is no display, it’s input only. I just have a photo of the ICP on my iPad, with virtual buttons set up to exactly mimick the real thing. It also works with an iPhone of course.
Just click on the link in my signature for my solution. I created a Readme for WordPad showing how I set it up.
