AI Wingman Dropping all CBU's on 1 target
-
Setup a “Pre Planned CAS” mission with a 2 ship of F-16C block 52’s.
Loadout is 2x AIM 120’s and 4x CBU 105’s with TGP and jammer.
I take off and fly the flight plan and command the flight to “fence in” when I’m suppose to. .
I get within range of the target and my AI Wingman requests permission to engage and I say “weapons free”. My wingman breaks off and heads toward the 15 to 20 tanks grouped in bunches of 3. Shortly after I hear him spam drop all 4 CBU’s on a single tank. I watch the target area and only 1 tiny group of tanks get destroyed. I ask my Wingman to “State Weapons” and my AI Wingman says “2x Radar”. SmhIs this normal or some kind of bug? I’ve done these kinds of missions multiple times and always the same outcome. I’ve tried directing my AI Wingman to specific targets (“Attack my Target”) and he still drops all 4 CBU-105’s on a single tank. I’ve noticed this kind of behavior with more than just CBU’s as well. It’s a huge waste and I’m left to do the brunt of the bombings on my own. Not to mention it’s a gigantic waste of ordinance…

same here mainly GBU’S i rarely deploy cbu

I use CBU’s for armored targets that aren’t moving and are grouped. 1x CBU can take out every tank in a 0-500 foot radius depending on the BA (Burst altitude) you set in the SMS. Usually only use them in good weather tho. Otherwise they are inaccurate due to the wind carrying the mini parachuting explosives. Not all CBU’s are meant for armor. I mainly use the CBU-105 for high altitude deployment (its GPS guided) and the CBU-97 SFW for low altitude deployment (unguided).
For example in the mission I mentioned in my original post I easily take out 12 tanks minimum with 4x CBU-105’s.
It’s a amazing ordinance.Live video of CBU-105 deployment

The flip side of that coin is that when they don’t release all bombs at once, they fly such a long egress, that making 4 passes might take close to another 1/2 hour (or more!) of loitering over the target.
If you are worried about using too much inventory, just limit the AI’s payload to 2 bombs.
My personal preference is to frag a one ship (for myself) and a four ship CAP (for the AI) and do all the ground work myself.
The AI has been discussed at length in this forum for a number of reasons. There are limits to what they can do, as there are limits to how their behavior can be changed without adversely affecting the sim.
abdo-totti

I usually save GBU’s for static targets. CBU 97SFW for heavy armor, and CBU 87CEM for most everything else. Occasionally use rockeyes, but the footprint is smaller with these.

Oh ok. Wasn’t sure if it was a known issue. Tried searching in google before posting in the forum but came up with nothing. Really is a shame. If only BMS could utilize modern technology and graphics engines it would be the perfect combat flight sim….honed to perfection over many years of development by passionate ppl who do it for the love of flying the F-16 (and other aircraft).

I don’t mean to say the AI have no role. If you spend enough time flying with the AI, you can start to recognize some patterns and use it to your advantage. There is actually a method to it all, even if I don’t completely understand it.
What I do know is this, bringing AI wingmen in F4 is like being a babysitter. If you have the patience and SA, it can be rewarding in its own way having a wingman strike a target that you directed him to hit…and other times, SMH.
In some cases, the AI will pickle/launch all of their A-G weapons, and other times only a portion. I think it largely depends on the target and the type of weapon employed. Probably some other factors as well.
Case in point - The AI are not completely useless, but it takes some practice in order to get used to how they operate. Keep mental notes, or write it down if you need to, but over time, you will notice patterns in the AI behavior.

I think in 4.32 days it was common practise to equip the AI with Mavericks only for CAS missions, they’re still quite good with those (D variant)

Not great for DEAD missions though. It’s going to be a while in my current campaign before I even think about going under 16k ft over DPRK! ha.

i guess i’ll have to go to kotar to test it out.
