F4Wx – Real Weather Converter

Thanks, Mav-jp, good to know also this in advance.
With best regards.

You will see them when, if you hover the mouse over a location if the map, the info says FEW025TCU for example. They need to meet a minimum thickness requirement and be reported as convective in the GRIB. F4Wx will report them with any weather type but, off the top of my head, I think that BMS will only depict them if the weather is Fair (i.e. green).
In April in Korea you probably wont see many. However, quick check of Panama:
Cool! I’m finding them in both poor and inclement as well.

Get used to those winds. Flight sims have spoiled us for a long time. IRL 100kt winds aloft happen almost every other day
I haven’t had time t try yet but I guess that HADB with mk84s has become way less accurate now all of a sudden too

Hi, I am trying to use the latest version but getting exception errors as soon as I click on the download option.
Anyone else getting this error or is it just on my side?
Older 4.33 version still works fine here.Cheers Obi1

Strange, I can only think of the new Windows 7 or later requirement causing this, but I read on your signature that you use Windows 7 already. Can you pm me the exact error and any other info/dumpfile you think may be relevant?
-
Well it could be my OS. I am using it on Vista for the files downloading.
Strange that the older f4wx versions has never crashed in the past, also on Vista.
Was it always requiring Windows 7 as minimum in the past?
I hope you could fix it so I can still keep working on Vista.
I am using your tool on a daily base and have all my development tools on this machine.
Win7 PC has no connection possibility here, it is setup just for flying BMS.Cheers Obi1
-
I see now that it shows Win7 minimum in readme file.
Very sad here because if it will/could not be fixed to work again like the older f4wx versions, this would mean a lot of trouble for me.
No development possible anymore to support the new 434 release and it’s new weather.
First I would need to get new system and get all development tools installed and working again. -
I’ll take a look into it over the weekend if I can get ahold of a XP/Vista VM image

I really appreciate this Ahmed! You would be helping me tremendously. Just hope I don’t cause you very much trouble though.Keeping my fingers crossed. So much thanks already.CheersObi1

I’m afraid of the answer , but I just have to ask… WHY Vista , for God sake.??? (and I don’t buy 'old hardware ’ story)
Just go for the Win7(/x64) and … peace be with you

Minor v1.01 update to make it work again with Vista (I didn’t test older) for those still on older OS versions.
Links on first post. No need to update if you already have a working v1.0 already as there are no other changes. This is just for those who couldn’t use v1.0 because of not having access to Windows 7 or later.

Just to let you know, assuming this is now built to support 4.34, 4.34 will only support W7 or newer.
-
Yep, thanks. I had some requests for making it compatible with older OS as some users were having problems as they used F4Wx in a different system than BMS and that system didn’t have W7, so just trying to make them happy
-
Please know that those are 2 separate things. BMS runs on Win7 minimum yes, but Weather download program itself could also be used on another system than BMS system.
The weather files of BMS itself are not OS dependent.
So yes my system and of some others are lacking behind and yes support is not granted anymore. But please stop pushing people to newer systems and OSes just because it sounds cool.
Ahmed did me a hugh favour to get it working on older OS again like it did before and yes I know this is a bonus because he mentioned in readme file that you need at least Win7.
There can be many reasons for people to still work on older OS even if they know time has come;-)
If Ahmed would not have helped I would be standing in the cold although ofcourse I would have understand why. Thanks Ahmed, I really appreciate your support.
P.S. This concerned the 2 post before Ahmed’s one about upgrading.
Cheers Obi1

Hi Ahmed,
Been busy updating my own weather tool to support 434 version.
Now when using F4Wx generated files, I noticed that cloud density always seem to go from FEW to BKN. Skipping the SCT.
Question is whether this is just not implemented yet or that I just did not find any situation yet?
It would provide an even smoother transition.Cheers Obi1
-
SCT is possible, I posted a screenshot a few pages ago that contained SCT TCUs. BMS desntiy and size values are populated depending on the real world values as close as possible. In any case, I think that the BMS weather engine takes care of smoothing any abrupt transitions that may occur.
-
Yes, I see now in your Panama pic indeed. Then all is okay, just expected to find it more often between FEW and BKN areas.
But if it’s close to real world values then that’s what it is, no need to change it.Cheers Obi1

i can only guess… No, don’t get me wrong, I have no any problem You using Vista, neither ‘pushing’ you… heck, you can return to DOS if you’d like (heck, I’m still using DOS for some sh**)
It was only suggestion, since Win7 is generally compatible with Vista and is still better in respect to newer software compatibility then Vista (but NOT some older software),
… and also Win7 will work on any hardware capable of running Vista…only Cougar software wont work fully since it was designed for Vista, yeah those DX8 Cougar axis tester… but it not crucial for stick programming and other stuffCheers

@Ahmed ,
What do you say if you can make your software , read multiple .fmap files (not editing just read) … in sequence … and make possible renaming day/time in already defined sequence ? (also make preview from already .fmap on disk)
To be clear, my problem is when I make my sequence , and later I want to ‘move’ day/time to a later , I need to multiple rename files … which is kind of PITA , even with TotalCommander - multiple files rename and even using regExp serach and replace. Since naming scheme is all numbers and repeatable through many files, even those you dont want to be renamed in wanted fashion.
If F4Wx could read sequence of .fmap files and move timing to another day/time , also make previews from .fmap(s). ??
Is it possible you would have any wish to do it ?
(AND, why don’t you just leave .grib files on disk , rather then delete them on the end of the conversion, then I could re-do/tweak my sequence as wanted, so above wouldn’t be even necessary)
THANKS
