F4Wx – Real Weather Converter
-
Hey all,
Unfortunately this seems to be another NOAA server issue. F4Wx relies on their grib filter api to download the relevant portions of the data (and not the huge whole files), and it seems to be down at the moment.
I’ll keep an eye on this.

There are other servers available of different weather organisatons.
You might improve your tool by giving the possibility to choose the model /servers ?

Yep if somebody can point me towards another weather data provider that offers similar capabilities I can integrate different providers into F4Wx
-
In the meantime, I reported the issue to NOAA and just got a response from them that they had some unexpected issues after their datacenter maintenance done on 22/10 and they are working on resolving them, but that they will need some time given the complexity of the issues. They confirmed that the grib filter is one of the affected services so far.

Seems to work again, but rather slowly still

I’m about to download this tool but I’m in an interesting situation, I have no internet hookup to my PC but I can download to my tablet when I get wifi in town and move anything to my computer.
Can I make this took work without internet on the PC falcon is installed on? Can I download a weather file and put it on my computer and still fly through a day or two of forecasts?

Yes you can, I do use it like this myself. Just download the files and copy them to your Falcon PC

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply, I’m still sitting in the gas station parking lot bumming internet!
Where can I find those files?
-
I know I’m just missing something simple but I cant figure out what weather files to download onto my tablet to bring to my computer. Ive found NAOO GFS webpage but theres a lot of options…
-
Hi,
The files you need are pretty specific. Ideally you would need to download them with F4Wx and save them locally. Then transfer them to your BMS computer running F4Wx too. But if you are on a tablet, I guess this is not an option?
-
Its saying my tablet wont open .exe files. My smart device told me Adobe app would open it, but…. I’m working on figuring out how to that works.
-
I brought my computer out of the woods and hooked it to the internet, I got F4Wx working in the nordic theater I believe, I havent flown yet but everything else works.
The strange thing is that F4Wx seemed to download the same GFS files I downloaded before….

Yes, the filenames will probably be the same (as they are based on date only), but the contents of those files will probably be different (because of different data and levels selected)

F4WX 1.03 created f.maps comp. for 4.35?

F4WX 1.03 created f.maps comp. for 4.35?
It did at least for me. Do not tick the checkbox “Sync With Real Timezone” since 4.35 uses zulu time and not local time.

Wise hint that yours, Razor.
Thanks a lot, I’ll keep it well in mind.
With best regards.

Should fmaps be named for local time or zulu time? I.e. rolling fire starts at 0100 Zulu which is 1000 local. After manually loading the initial map, the game will load the next one in about an hour. Should the first file I want auto-loaded be 10200 or 11100?
And before I get a RTFM - section 7.5.1 of the tech manual says “the campaign engine will load the map when the time matches the file name.” with no clarification of zulu vs local.

I haven’t been able to try 4.35 yet, can anyone get him an answer on that? Otherwise give me a few days to check it myself
