Was (re)reading today MLU Tape 3 manual about extended to 40 nm ACM Boresight radar mode. Just thinking why it was extended to such long range? Obviously, you can’t visually acquire fighter-size target from more than 10 nm. So, is it something to do with TGP A/A capabilities or Link 16 or IFF?

Would make sense. Drag the nose over onto the PDLT and TMS up for a HUD oriented way to get a track, increasing sensor fusion. Same for say a TD box from the TGP. Although, Im not sure how good the search capability is on the TGP. Wouldnt be IFF. My money would be on the Link 16 being the reason.

EDIT: and as below, derp - of course contrails.

You can see a fighter in contrails up to 50+ miles.

40nm HMCS bore isn’t always enough.

I didn’t realize this had been implemented in BMS though, nice 🙂

Edit: guess it hasn’t been implemented in BMS and you were just talking about MLU implementation?

Has it been? I thought BMS was still just 10 miles. The MLU3 manual is not part of BMS, after all.

Aircraft in contrails perfectly make sense as it will be the fastest way to lock bogey. Thank you! AFAIK in BMS it’s still 10 nm.
