Could someone please help a guy out?
I am not a computer programmer– I am having trouble finding the key(s) that

      1. Let me LOCK ONTO a target
      2. Drop single Flare(s)
      3. Drop single Chaff(s)

If someones sends some sort of .ExE/bat file
I am not going to have any idea how to do this (or make it work)
Imagine explaining fire to a caveman
I do get the Target Designator to move around (under my control) I just can’t seem to get a target Locked up
Could someone offer up some guidance?

      Thank you

        Thank you

Hey Razor sounds like you are getting a bit frustrated? I can help you get this all sorted but I’ll need to know what you are using for a joystick or HOTAS if you want it all figured out for you.

If you want to work on it yourself, basically what you need to do is to go into your setup, select controllers, then bind TMS UP to the button you want to lock up targets with. Now here’s the story about TMS (up, down, left, right); DMS (up, down, left, right); CMS (up, down, left, right); and COMMS (up, down, left, right). It is my understanding in the real world those are 4 way so-called HAT switches. There’s a really good diagram in the TO-BMS1F-16CM-34-1-1 manual in your docs folder on page 15. Let me post it here though for you.

TMS stands for Target Management Switch it does different things in different aircraft/weapon modes but generally speaking:
TMS UP once is stabilize (or set an area of interest or a so-called soft lock); TMS UP the second time is a hard lock.
        TMS DN is undo.
TMS RT is step through targets.
        TMS LT is filter targets.

Once I understood that locking and stepping and filtering would be a bit different depending on the mode, that’s when I realized the genius of the system. Most all of your target management tasks are tied to this one HAT switch and all you have to do is think generally whether you want to lock a target, step a target , filter a target or undo a target, you’ll know which way to move the HAT. So it’s really cool.

DMS stands for Display Management Switch (I think). Again generally speaking:
DMS UP makes your HUD the Sensor of Interest (SOI) (also helps you out in the HUD when you are doing FLIR and-or TFR nighttime flights by moving your sensors ahead in a turn).
DMS DN cycles the SOI to HUD and MFDs (if and only if they are eligible to be the SOI in the particular mode you are in).
DMS RT cycles the Direct Access Buttons (OSB 12-14) your right MFD. So in a typical configuration you would be cycling between WPN, HSD, and SMS pages.
DMS LT cycles the Direct Access Buttons (OSB 12-14) your left MFD. So you might be cycling between FCR and TGP on your left hand side.

Now the major switch used in real life, that you shown an interest in above, is the CMS switch which is the Countermeasure Management Switch (I think that’s what it stands for).

That one is very complicated. You see you can set your aircraft to somewhat automatically spit out any combination of chaff and flares that you want. But I don’t know if anybody does that in this sim because the F-16 doesn’t have a ton of countermeasures so we are pretty stingy with our supplies. So I am 100% with you. If you want to blame someone for countermeasures being so complicated blame the USAF not the guys here at BMS. 😄

You have six CMS program slots available to you. Personally I use #5 for flares and #6 for chaff. #1 as my panic program with copious chaff and flares and #2 as my ground target ingress and egress flare program (to protect against those little bastards that like to fire those ground to air heatseekers at you). So my custom CMS switch looks like this:

CMS UP = executes currently selected CMS program (for me either 1 or 2 if i am making A-G runs).
        CMS RT = chaff program
        CMS LT = flare program
        CMS DN = jammer toggle

Now, I can help you set up your CMS switch however, you like but you actually should sort of plan it out how you want it and then I can help.

I hope that gets you started and relieves some of the stress. I’ve been there so I think I know how you are feeling at the moment

A fairly good summary of certain pages from the manual included for free in your install folder.
