Enable IFF datalink?

Especially when the new hire flaunts that he’s done this job before and that he’s dealt with the machine before and when you show him how to do things, he questions you and your experience and goes off quoting the manual again…
I hope this shows the OP how he’s rubbing people off the wrong way, YET I hope he also realizes that we’re still here helping him out. However, he can’t just come here with attitude and expect help without getting called out for the attitude.
Having said that, here’s what I propose that -Pv- should do so we start getting on the same page…
1. Decide on what .key file you’re going to use. Default Full.key file or whatever, doesn’t matter. Decide on one and STICK TO IT. Do not re-map anything (yet)
2. Find out what IFF OUT is mapped to. For the Full.key, it is DELETE
3. Fire up the sim, select TE 05 (AAR), select package 4980, jump into the lead aircraft, and COMMIT. This setup starts him off at 30nm from Kunsan, so a perfect testing ground for his issues
4. Once in the pit, press Left OSB 6 to get to CONT. Press and hold DELETE for more than 1 second, let go, and he should get #2’s position. That should be working before going to step 5
5. Make your way to Kunsan. Talk to your wingman on the way. Get him to snooze radar, change position, kick out, close in, etc. IDM should continue to work
6. When visual on Kunsan, talk to the tower. Ask for QNH, landing runway, wind check, and request autonomous approach. IDM should contine to work
7. Land at Kunsan. AI wingman will circle and land behind you. When you’ve landed, turn off into one of the taxiways and monitor your wingman. IDM should continue to workI’ve just tested this scenario and can verify that the IDM is working as advertised and as noted above. If you are getting different results from me, then you are doing something wrong somewhere. It’s NOT a sim issue, it’s NOT a controller issue, and it’s NOT a .key file issue if you follow the instructions as above.
1A I have done that since the beginning. I only edited for testing based on instructions given me by others insisting I remap the keys and returned to the original key file for reporting the problem I have.
2A I have known the correct key from continued research after reporting the problem as soon as viewing a popular dlink video on YouTube referenced from many web sites proved none of the two or three key presses in the video or the vid comments worked for me.
In the original post I reported I had tried pressing the delete key and other keys suggested in the video.
3A This particular TE is the only only one in which I’ve been able to make the dlink work. This is great. Perhaps block versions saved in other TEs do not have this capability?
IDM continues to work.Good find on providing a working TE so this seems to be the culprit.
“The game autopopulates your IDM list for own flight. It’s the rest of the package you need to do manually.”
I have not seen this happen. I only get a own-wing data on the HSD when the dlink is manually activated. What you report is what I remember from 4.32. I was used to not having to activate it manually.Non-working TEs appear to be the problem right now. Maybe it’s the aircraft block saved in the TE? I don’t know.
An example is in the SAVED TE section: “BMS5-007 Training CAP”
I cannot activate DLINK in those planes.“he questions you”
I rightfully questioned the advice to remap my key file IFF OUT. Which needlessly turned into a lengthy debate about the technique and necessity of doing so.
Turns out editing the file was unnecessary to solve this particular problem. My full file was correctly mapped for this feature from the installation.I’m still learning BMS-community-speak. I will likely keep getting each new term wrong until corrected.

Even with AI?
I meant MP with my mates from the 87th.
Funny thing I haven’t paid attention to the he AIs.
I will tonight. I’ll report back

PikaThanks Pika! I think it’s confirmed that AI won’t be activating IDM while on the ground…

1A I have done that since the beginning.
Well, if you did, you wouldn’t be in this situation.
Good find on providing a working TE so this seems to be the culprit.
……
An example is in the SAVED TE section: “BMS5-007 Training CAP”
I cannot activate DLINK in those planes.I just tried that TE, used the Falcon-1 flight in both Runway and Taxi start. In both cases, IDM data comes up as soon as 2 is airborne and calls “2 airborne!” I’ve even entered the other package’s IDMs and you can see them on the HSD:
Just me and #2 airborne
Here’s how the IDM page is set up
2nd package and lead of 3rd package airborne
And we’re all here
Good find on providing a working TE so this seems to be the culprit.
……
Non-working TEs appear to be the problem right now. Maybe it’s the aircraft block saved in the TE? I don’t know.Like I said…. It’s NOT a sim issue, it’s NOT a controller issue, and it’s NOT a .key file issue

Please find me another TE where the IDM does not work so I can show you that it DOES work.I’m still learning BMS-community-speak. I will likely keep getting each new term wrong until corrected.
That’s not what you’re getting wrong. God knows I may NOT be using the terms correctly myself, but I do know how to follow instructions, read the manual, admit when I’m wrong, and be thankful for any help.

Also not limited to TEs. Opened up a Team Furball and here’s my flight of 4x Block 52s ready to punish some Bears…
Flight of 4:
Trying out som Block 25s….
Still works:

Works for humans. Pretty sure not for AI.
Squadron standards seem to vary between BMS squads as to whether its an on the ground or in the air thing. Id be curious if FoxThreeTwoShip would care to weigh in on that.
So I know the T.O. calls it all IDM, but we usually refer to IDM as the A/G capabilities (A-G DATALINK page) and IDT (INTRAFLIGHT page) as the A/A capabilities. Yes, we can and will check both on the ground. In one of the images he has ‘XMT 11’ set and ‘OWN 11’ set; this means he’s trying to send himself a datalink. This doesn’t make much sense. I can’t answer why the sim isn’t working; I will say that you cannot be in SILENT or QUIET, however.

I’m guessing he did a ramp start and borked the data input….

Sim is working.

“I’m guessing he did a ramp start and borked the data input….”
I have not done a ramp start yet in this version of the game. Working to get more confidence on other basic game functions first." I will say that you cannot be in SILENT or QUIET"
YES that’s the big nono I’ve learned and the key to everything. I’m so used to ingress into the target stealthy, it’s a long established habit to turn it off immediately.
I now know I can set up the dlink, go silent and when I want to see the planes again, the display activates again as soon as I turn on the radar
without having to rework the commands or displays. I can work with that.Worked with a friend for about 10 hours today in mult. Both he and I had no trouble at all getting everything in the IDM working in mult right off the bat.
Did notice (not a fault) that when another AI flight is included in the list, none of the planes show up until the entire flight is in the air.
Not complaining, just an observation all of you already know.Another possibility is I may be holding down the delete key too long and it’s cycling off again while holding it. Will have to experiment more with that.
Not an assertion, just something to verify.Right now I’m satisfied I know how to make it all work. The available videos were not helpful because they used custom key presses and I had to figure out
(without them mentioning it) that what their key presses were doing was activating “IFF OUT” (which is partly where I got the wrong “IFF datalink” lingo.)

Glad you’ve got it working at last. I guess this thread has run its course then.
