-Ice's Falcon BMS Helios Profile Updated… Again!
-
It has been awhile since I used this profile, but today when I loaded it up, the ICP did not appear. Is that just my issue or an issue with the profile? I am using the new Helios.
-
Any improvements for F16 ?
-
I had the same issue awhile ago when first getting into BMS and Helios. It’s a problem with how the new Helios references stock images which is different than the previous Helios 1.3.0 version. What I did was open the Ice Helios profile in notepad and search for the directory that references the ICP buttons and change them to the new format. The new format you can obtain by adding a single ICP button and noting the path to the button. It’s something like {helios}/images/f16/buttons or something to that effect. Once you update the profile the ICP should show up. I believe there are a few other places where the directory for stock images is off so a review of the entire profile is probably needed if you’re going to use the new Helios.

Thanks for the tip. I found an old copy of Helios and ran that version and the ICP appeared. You can have both the old and new versions of Helios on your computer so there does not appear to be a need for me to try to understand your suggestion. Anyway, I cannot seem to get target to work so I will probably not be using ICE’s profile. I am using the directx method for the Hotas and mfds but I do miss target for the Helios profile. -

I don’t use TARGET at all. Just like you I found and older copy of Helios and used that instead of the new Beta copy.

I was thinking of how to run Ice’s profile without target, but could not figure out how to do it. Did you just run his key file and then programed your hotas directly in the game control panel? If you could just give me the steps, I will make an attempt to do it. Actually, I am hoping if I can get Ice to run without target, then when someone updates their Helios profile for 4.34, I can use the same method to run their profile without target. -
So what I did was take the Ice key file that comes with the downloads of his profile. then I ran the Key file editor excel tool Loaded the Ice key file then mapped my Warthog DX settings in the key file editor. I then exported to a key file and copied to Falcon BMS User/Config folder.
The Ice profile has lots of comments in it and I found that the Key File Editor complained that some lines were in error because of this but you are able to export to a key file anyway and it doesn’t cause any issues with Falcon BMS because if it did Ice wouldn’t have put it in there to begin with.
So that’s really all I did. You’ll have to open up the Ice Helios profile and change the location of the keyhole of course but that is routine. Let me know if you need any more assistance. I’m happy to help.

I think I understand what you did, but it may be over my head. I am just a retired lawyer and your method was not taught to me in law school. Any chance that you just sent me your revised key file so I can look at it? It is also my understanding that some keys have changed in 4.34 and some of the panels may be different or added. Any thoughts on that?I am presently using the DX command profile that came with 4.34 and I was hoping that I could use Ice’s key file but simply not load Ice’s target profile and instead, program my Hotas the way ICE did in his most recent release, but program them directly in the game or maybe use the Alternative launcher when it is ready. your thoughts in this idea?

Hello,
New to Helios , BMS 4.34 , Ices’s, Using 4 monitors, surround for 3 and a touch screen for Helios. I can get the image cockpit to show, how do you get the the gauges to show up in the appropriate gauges and slots ? I don’t get how that part works, do you have to drag them? if so where do get them, how do you get it to correspond when flying BMS??? Very frustrated…step by step please. I appreciate it , many thanks!

If you switched from Helios 1.3.x to the new 1.4.x the newer version
I don’t think the 1.4x is a newer version, I think the better term is it is the DCS version. AFAIK, Helios has been abandoned and is now open source? No idea what’s offered on the DCS Helios version so no idea why there would be a need to update/upgrade to that version. Just stick to the last Gadroc Helios version for now, I guess.

Go to the blog and read everything from the start; IIRC around 2015. He didn’t post very much so there’s not much to go through but some of his later posts on the blog seem to be under the assumption that you’ve read his previous posts. No idea if everything works under 4.34 though.
As for the key file and Target or no target, the key file is really only for Helios and BMS working together. Edit or delete the DX section as needed and the key file should still work fine. Again, not sure how this will work under the new 4.34 as I’ve not updated to that yet.

Everything still working under 434
-
Good to know
-
unless you have airport maps and frequencies programmed they need an update
you have to add the new iff panel too -
mantaray is correct in that the current Ice profile is missing all of the new key commands in 4.34 such as the IFF stuff. I am in the process of adding the new key commands to ICE’s key file so that they can be used on a button box such as the 3rd and 4th MFDs that some of us have. While you cannot change the panels, at least you will be able to control the new panels with the button box and not have to click in the game cockpit.
Perhaps someone more knowable than me in Helios could then figure out how to do something with the new keys in Helios, but for me, the button box will be a good stop gap.
I have no idea how to handle the new maps. -
Hi Ice
I flew with your profile for quiet a while and am very satisfied with it. Unfortunately, when I installed the latest version of Helios I delete the “F16 Gauge Pack” while de-installing the old version. For the life of me I cannot find the F16GaugePack on the Internet. Can you help me?

I believe he (Ice) is working on getting his profile updated for 4.34, with the standard 3-4 weeks ETA Or was it 2-3 weeks ETA? I keep forgetting.
-
has Ice been un banned yet?
-
Looks like someone didn’t like being called out and so he got banned for what he posted on the DCS thread. That was Feb last year so seems like he got a perma-ban? Not like the DCS thread got any better since his ban though!

Doesn’t appear so . . .

I picked up a Samsung 49" curved monitor today to replace my 50" tv. Windows sees it as number 1 which is correct and the same as the TV was. My touch panel hasn’t changed. However, when I go to Helios Profile Editor (whatever it’s called) to reset the monitor resolution, the number one has become the number 2 and 2 has become 1. This isn’t usually a big deal and in fact after resetting them, saving, closing and reopening they appear correct in the preview. When I fire up Helios however the profile comes up on the main screen….? Never had this happen before. The new monitors resolution is smaller than the tv was. The tv was 3940x2160 I believe and the new one is 3940x1080. Anyone had this issue?
Thanks,
