    • Quick update from the BMS Frontlines - November 2021

      Hello pilots!

As initiated a couple months ago, we try to give a bit more regular updates on where we stand and the latest news from the team…
Well, it is time for a new update.

      BMS 4.35

As 4.35 Update 3 is out, we just want to remind people that 2 bugs were found after release and we advise you to take a look at:

      AI Overhead fix:
      Link to thread

      RWR Missile fix:
      Link to thread

We understand that having to process this manually isn’t the best but this is the best way for us to communicate around easy fixes without having to go through a full update delivery process.
In the future, we’ll have to look for other ways to distributes files (but nothing simple for now as we have to be transparent with the IP holder of Falcon 4.0).

At this stage, consider Falcon BMS 4.35 end of life as the teams are focusing on the next big version.

      BMS 4.36

To bring down the noise we constantly hear from the community, let me put things straight:
No… Falcon BMS 4.36 will not be released for Xmas…

Although we would have all loved to bring you that surprise, it is unrealistic at this stage as the beta testing process is pretty much ongoing and most of us have daily jobs that intensify closer to holidays…

We want to make sure we bring a stable and enjoyable version to you guys (hopefully without too many issues).

At this stage, we don’t know how long this will take but you will surely see the signs when we’re ready!
Don’t worry, this time, the release isn’t blocked due to documentation as we radically changed our documentation approach since the release of 4.35…

      BMS Development

This is a very sensitive topic as you must know that we are constantly being reminded that we’re not alone and people expectations are shifting over the years (industry standard are obviously moving).

This won’t be news to the old timers but for the “fresh” BMS pilots, we need to put things in perspective:

      • We are a handful of people
      • We do that on our spare time without revenue
      • We put a lot of love in our work and are very proud of what we do
      • We always look for the best realism we can implement (based on our information and skills)
      • We love having community contributions and always look for new talents…

In the end, don’t worry, you’re in for a big surprise as always! We want to surprise you and have fun doing what we do!
The way see it: 4.36 will rock your world and 4.37 will revolutionize your GFX card 😄
      (that’s all, I’ll say… Don’t try to get more out of me! 🙂 )

      One last word…

As you must feel, we enter a phase where the team is under tension to cater for all (4.36 preparation, work / life balance, re-organizing our way of working internally, …).

So please be patient with us, we’ll be a bit more quiet in the coming weeks…
In the meantime, stay safe, be patient, fly BMS and don’t believe everything people tell you 😉 (yes YouTube… I am looking at you 🙂 )

      We love you!

      Cheers

    • Temporary fixes for 4.36.0

      Dear Pilots,

Following the report of multiple issues:

      • Loss of flight performance in MP with some loadouts
      • Graphical bug on missile trail launch

Please apply the following lines on your “falcon BMS.cfg” (User/config folder):

      set g_sNonCompatibleChanges "all-DURANDAL-NC_CHANGE_DEAGGED_LOADOUT"
      set g_sCompatibleChanges "all-C_CHANGE_DYNAMIC_SMART_SCALING-C_CHANGE_CHANGE_STORE_DAMAGE"

This will prevent issues while we investiguate and compile fixes for a next update…

      Sorry for the inconvenience!

    • 2021 A Falcon BMS Year to remember!

      #anchor

      Hi Folks!

In a couple hours, we’re going to enter 2022 and leave 2021 behind!

Time for a (more personal and a bit general) retrospective and word of the future! (Not too much tough before I’m drunk…)

      A step into BMS Team

My official Journey at BMS started back in January 2021…

From Falcon Lounge community to Falcon BMS was a really milestone for me personally! In so many ways, I was involved in Falcon BMS but being part of the story of the team was a game changer…

In so many ways, you always have good intentions but you need to make sure that you can keep up with your goals (set reasonable goals or you’ll end up caught in the task forever and get burned out).

So you start by getting into the wealth of knowledge that the team has and dif your own hole so you can start contributing to the story!

      2021 Wind of change

Some might have noticed but there has been quite some changes around here!

      The Hard

As in a lot of stories, there needs to be change to initiate a new momentum.
Some people left the team, some came back and some joined!

A in every team, that creates a bit of lag where people need to find their mark and reshape a bit the goals. Falcon BMS 4.35 U1 was definitely a difficult release as a lot shifted during that period of time.

The constant rant, social pressure on BMS team (through other channels than this forum) and the constant compare with another well know F-16 product definitely can’t be ignored…

Obviously, I am not even going to speak about the global pandemic!

      The Ambition

For those who have a bit of corporate experience, you know that restructuring and setting new goals is essential to steer people to the road of success!
Except that… We’re not a company but a bunch of passionate people that deeply care about Falcon BMS.

As part of the ambition, we try to communicate a bit more but will remain quite careful on what we share (we can’t share everything in terms of roadmap since we’re not the kind to disclose everything and we do have rules internally…)

We also are restructuring our internal tools and try to modernize our assets! (Yes I know that’s always hard for some to accept that 🙂 )

The team is no always looking for more talents but we will always make sure we keep people that match team spirit (team spirit before individuals)…
If you’re interested, there is an official form HERE but we will always be very selective on profiles.

      The Best

In every story, there is passion BUT there is mostly friendship!
We’re not many very active within the team but I can tell you I really had a great time spending evenings joking and developing with a couple guys in the team! I have to give a special shout to the boys (and they are not the only ones!):
      @Mav-jp , @Bad-Boy , @Radium (you’re not BMS but anyway 😉 ) , @spooky , @I-Hawk , @Tumbler31 , @Manos1981 , @Seifer , @Dee-Jay

You guys really helped me getting through 2021 and this is where BMS Team shines: There are always people to help the other without conditions!

BMS is strong because of its people and this is why I see our future is bright!

      2022 and Beyond

Well obviously, you heard the focus is Falcon BMS 4.36 and gave a couple hints through our Xmas gift 😉 .

Now, we are fully committed to busting bugs and optimizing our next release!

      What about the next step?
Well… 4.36 is being prepared but we are already deep into 4.37 development…

4.37 will definitely be a big change compared to 4.36 that will be the last of the current era…

As we change our development tools and release cycles, we sure want to avoid working on 3 versions in // because it is way too much to maintain for the small team we are!

Some keywords of our Future in 4.37:
      #new-terrain
      #VR (sooner if we can…)
#Better-3D-models (this is true for 4.36 as well…)
      and even more surprises…

Here it is… 2021 is wrapped up and 2022 opens!
Thank you for the awesome First BMS year and looking forward for the next!

      Enjoy!

      Falcon BMS Xmas 2021

Year 2021 is coming to an end and everyone is taking a well deserved holiday!
In this time of sharing and presents, we wanted to share with you a small present that hopefully will rejoice everyone!

Yes, we have seen Santa and here is a living proof:

After refueling his reindeers, he left us some goodies for the F/A-18C patrolling the area.

Soon after, fog started covering the region announcing snow for the evening!

This has been an awesome year and we’re exited to move on to the next with the same will and ambition!

Merry Xmas everyone and see you soon in the virtual skies!

    • A couple tips on how to use the forum advanced features

      Hello community,

So time to discover the new forum functionalities!!!

Here are a couple things you can use:

      Writing interface
This new forum is using Markdown as a scripting text language.
To learn more about it, you can go here

      Image upload
This is now fully automated and you can copy paste whatever you wish.
There is a hard limit of 90 images per hour, so if you get an error, that might be because we reached the limit… Just be patient in this case!

      Private Messages
This is now replaced by a “chat” feature. it achieves the same functionality except you can use the advanced editing text tools (no image, file uploads)…

      Ask a question
Now in the support section, you can use the “ask a question” function. This is very helpful when you need to check how to solve the same issue you might be facing…

      Tagging posts
It is matching Twitter convention by just putting hashtag and a keyword -> #important #forum #tips

      Switching interface to dark mode
This forum can be very tiring for some people… Just give your eyes some rest by clicking on the light bulb close to the search icon…

      Change Forums Settings
You can change forum Settings by clicking on your Avatar.
A drop window should open and go to “settings”…
There you will be able to change a few things about the forum preferences

How do I add images and links to my signature?
      Add image:

      ![alt-text](url-to-image)

      Add URL:

      [Text](url)

      Add image with link:

      [![alt-text](url-to-image)](url)

More tips to come later on!

    • Call to 3D Community Devs - External Models upgrade (Falcon BMS)

      Dear Community,

We are reaching back to you to help us to upgrade some of the current models in BMS that would require some love.

Since it is very hard to keep track from a forum perspective, we are now tracking it on an external website so 3D talents can contribute to our backlog.

Obviously there are a couple conditions to respect:

      1. The model must be yours or must have full right to use, modify or distribute it in the context of BMS (We will be super careful about that! - proof required)

      2. If you are the model creator, you will remain the author but:
        a. The full sources (3D models, Textures, any original work, …) will be sent to the BMS Team
        b. BMS Team will have full rights to alter fully or partially the work and distribute in the context of BMS
        c. Model integration will always be at BMS Team discretion

      3. Models 3D sources are “preferred” to be from 3DS (3D Studio Max)

      4. No privileges can be requested by the author to BMS Team nor does it mean that the author is part of it.

You can find references here for the BMS exporter.

      How to contribute?

The list of planes to update can be viewed HERE.
      Quick Note:

      • Red: High Priority
      • Yellow: Medium Priority
      • Green: Low priority

If you are interested please use the following CONTACT FORM a message with potential work reference (we try to maintain a certain quality level so please take as reference the quality level of @Radium …)
Your application will be reviewed and you will be invited to contribute…

Please, we ask you to consider your commitment and timeframe of your project before you apply…

We thank you for your time and contribution to our passion maintaining Falcon BMS!

      Cheers

    • JTAC - GPS - Workaround

      Dear pilots,

Following reports, we detected an error in the GPS coordinates provided by the JTAC in the 9 line.

Currently, the JTAC announce the coordinates in D° M’ S’’ while the ICP expects D° M’

In order to convert the coordinates please check the example below:

      Initial coordinates:

      E 136° 23'' 45''

In order to calculate the decimal part, you will need to do the following:

      45/60 = .75

So you will need to input the following:

      E (6) - 136 - 23750

      Thus

      E 136° 23.750 '

This will be corrected in 4.36 U1

Thank you for reporting this matter to us!
