@Snipe - It is good that you have been able to get that level of interest and utilise that in your hobby.
Looking at the hard copy of Shaw I have - first published 1985!

RE: Enjoyed reading this F-16 related book
@Snipe Viper Pilot by Dan Hampton is entertaining at least.
Boyd (Coram) - bio of John Boyd who had an influential role in F-15/16 development via EM theory. Also served in ww2, Korea (F-86) and Vietnam. Good read but pinch of salt in places.
Loud and Clear - I Spector. brilliant bio this guy was involved in most of Israels early history. Flew on the 81 Osirak raid

@Snipe Take it you have read all the usual stuff like Vipers In the Storm etc?

RE: Difference between block 40 and 50?
@OPPOTATO said in Difference between block 40 and 50?:
IRL, USAF Block 40s also dont have an IFF interrogator compared to the block 50s that do
Some USAF ANG have slicers now on Block 40 & 42 like Dakota ANG
-
RE: Difference between block 40 and 50?
@Xeno No USAF block 40/42 never had bird slicers with CCIP.
In recent years some USAF ANG units have got bird slicers on block40/42.

@IonicRipper Hi . No, it’s not a bug. Actually HTS can be added to any jet in BMS . But, @schnidrman is right. The RL Block 40 doesn’t have it.
Spooky above is probably right because USAF 36FS Block 40s have been seen with the pod.

RE: TrackIR issue
Years gone have needed blackout curtains to get rid of all the light.
Also in the Camera tab in the software check the “Light Filter threshold” and “IR Brightness” sliders.

RE: Effective Use of AIM-7s
Cannot remember if I even used the Sparrow back then. Not sure employment has ever been documented in Falcon either, more of a fun missile. If it is there will need digging.
Only ref I have to Sparrow on F-16 is the ADF and no loft mode on that.

RE: Effective Use of AIM-7s
Suggest setting up a TE against another aircraft and practise. Seems a lot better than it was to me.
Get closer for a higher PK if you can. Longer the range the more chance the bad guy will trash the radar lock. Fire them in STT only. -
RE: Availability of JSOW AGM-154C
US Arms sales list this (which may or may not be accurate)
Turkey AGM-154A-1 and C delivered 2007-2008
Poland AGM-154C Delivered 2007 - 2008
Greece AGM-154C Delivered 2009TuAF

RE: Aviation books
“Loud and Clear” and “Fighter pilot” are very good reads yes.
Enjoyed the recent MiG Diaries (Cuban/SAAF/Angolan accounts of that Cold War conflict)
Cannot say my reading has been reduced and most of the You tube videos are such a poor standard - if those guys spent some time actually reading things properly that might improve things.

RE: Upgrading to nvidia 4070ti
Have an MSI 4070ti 3X OC with i7-13700K but am only running at 1440p.
Concern would be the mainboard as the card is PCIe4. An older main board for 6700 must be PCIe3 only so it would be bottlenecked there.
But how relevant that would be would need to be determined. Also can depend what else you have on the system using PCI Lanes so worth checking.

RE: Santa's wishlist for BMS
@Xeno said in Santa's wishlist for BMS:
What about bullseye info (ownship, current radar cursor posit)? I haven’t seen any, at least on the REO display. Maybe it’s on the HUD but I’ve never payed attention to this detail when watching HUD cam (btw not so many available from A/B variants). Is there option to create markpoint during flight?
Looks like there are Markpoints but limited (Overfly only).
Bullseye?..best you get is Radar shows Range & Bearing from selected steerpoint to Radar cursor position (Search) or steerpoint to tracked target (STT/SAM).
Cannot say what versions of the 1980s A/B that applies to.
-
RE: Santa's wishlist for BMS
@Xeno Where that comes from usually is that first C was delivered in 84 to USAF and production started that year but don’t think they were really operational until a few years after that.
-
RE: Santa's wishlist for BMS
There have been sources over the years but they are most likely wrong. People get confused by the word “provisions”. Sparrow wasn’t test flown and certified on the C until 1989 according to Lockheed M. F-16A ADF in 1989 really was the first.
Don’t let that stop you using it though.

RE: Do we develop the F-35
@Stevie said in Do we develop the F-35:
Interesting to note in this pic that these don’t have all of the hard points that the ones on a typical E model do
The articles I have discuss there being different versions. States -2 and -3 were used by the F-15CDs in the 80s and “All F-15Es will be equipped with the latest version the -4 with tangential weapons carriage in the near future” Which is also shown in the manual charts above.

RE: Do we develop the F-35
Okay maybe that was what I was thinking of…I have more than one photo of Israeli F-15A and B in a book with CFTs but they are not dated so presumably these were modified at some point and are a unique case.
