Sorry if this has already been covered but, i cannot open any of the 4.34 campaigns without an error saying that unit data is corrupted or something….
EDIT I just ran it again to get the exact phrase but it now loads the campaign files without a hitch.

RE: Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
Yes you are right. It’s slow and bad. Not even texture atlas is the problem, even DX9 supports IIRC 16 texture slots, but those aren’t used. Every texture is a draw call in Falcon world, crazy indeed. I was surprised as well.
So the terrain is arranged in tiles(array) and every element gets a draw call?

RE: Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
1000 draw calls for terrain per frame, insane in the membrane. Changing textures slows things down a lot, do you guys use texture atlas’s? This is really interesting!

RE: Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
Pbr wasnt the focus of my post, just lighting in general, there are many techniques. Point is we can do more lighting calcs and perhaps ‘embed’ more data into the geometry for said calcs. A little lighting work would transform the visuals i think.

RE: Poh hornet question
Hey Nuno it’s a beauty of a theater to be sure but oh man something is up with the hornets, in a 7 g turn i just keep accelerating and accelerating. Is there some files i can move around to test?
Thats an f18 with 12 amraam in a 7.5 g turn accelerating from 4-500 knots.

RE: Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
Not sure what you refer to exactly. I don’t know DX9 really well, but vertex info could be customized on DX9 as well.
Actually if you compare between DX9 and DX11, the main advantages of DX11 for a flight sim are:1. Tessellation - Naturally, LODing on the GPU is very much needed for when you need LODing badly.
2. HW instancing - Draw same geometry many times with single draw call and possibly different parameters (Position, colors, textures etc).
Of course there are many more options, but this is the ones that may be game changers in comparison.
I was thinking more of lighting and textures, pbr etc.

Poh hornet question
It seems the hornets have buckets of power, have they been modified or is it my imagination?

RE: Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
It would be fascinating to see how Falcon manages the vertex data, and how fun would it be to replace it with a custom type that can hold loads more information, im sure the stock vertex’s have very rudimentary data (pos… normals???).
I wonder if one could copy the vertex data, flesh it out, and use that data for lighting calcs or something…

Question about the Graphics of Falcon 4 BMS
So the original used Dx 7 i read somewhere, im just curious how much this can be/has been upgraded.
I’ve learnt some Dx11 and it seems to me that it would just be a process of rewriting a lot of the functions of dx7 but otherwise quite doable…Just relatively idle curiosity,
thanks.
