Saturday lazy morning… Just playing around with UVW unwrap…a few things are still a mystery to me…
For the guys that actually know how to do it…how can a I do a texture for different objects but at different times? I can select ALL the objects do UVW unwrap and put everything on a texture but is a mess to identify all the diferent faces OR I can do it by elements (HUD, central pedestal, instruments, MFD) but when I do UVW unwrap I dont see how I have distributed the rest of the elements for other objects and sometimes overlap the texture… Does it make any sense what I say??

Basicly you do it the right way. You’re using 3D Max? For easier identification of the faces you actually want to place on the texture grid just select them in the viewport on your model, this way you don’t have to fiddel around with all the overlapping faces in the uvw editor!
You know what i mean? And i hope i understood your problem!

Is not so easy, is it?
The person who designed it - actullay was a woman - got the highest civilad medal (Lenin Order?) what anybody coould get in the USSR.
The main problem is that there is not really good reference of the main gear but i think i have it quite spot on now. At least it animates well into the gear bay

Hey guys… since the last update is quite a while age here’s a first picture of the new main gear. I rebuilt the main gear from scratch until i was happy with what i can show you now.

Better idea:
Pick a model, look out for reference pictures, examine what does make the vehicle or whatever recognizable (what’s the first thing coming to your eye when looking at the ref picture)
Then start modeling, first rough out the basic proportions with basic geometry… cubes, blocks spheres etc…
Create a WIP Thread and provide pictures there so me and the other guys already involved in modeling can give you a helping hand!
No reason to take a look at already existing models
Try to aim for an oveall Triangle count of 3000

OK, well it’s been 3 years or so since I did anything serious in 3ds max so I’ll see how quickly I can pick it up again. Had a quick play tonight and doesn’t seem to have changed much over the years.
Any chance of getting a model of a vehicle created in 3ds max so I can examine the level of detail required? I just had a quick play around at creating a wheel and managed to get nearly 1000 faces :rolleyes:
