SUCCESS!!! Led a 4 ship to attack a column of T-72s. I had 4 direct hits! I didn’t get hit, nor did any of my wingmen. YIPEEE!! I have a way to survive CAS missions (after clearing out any Med-High SAMs, of course).

Up to 100%!!! Thanks again, a combination of higher-speed, and manually lasing for a few seconds after release seemed to have done the trick. No to go try it in a campaign…

RE: Please verify my TGP/GBU procedures are correct.
Thanks again, I’m up to 50% kills now….which is an improvement from 0%
Back to practicing. Man I’ve missed this sim.

Wow…great info! Back at it.

RE: Please verify my TGP/GBU procedures are correct.
I’m getting the blinking L, and this time I watched the thing from weapon view. I managed to hit the first tank, then came around for another pass. This time the weapon started to guide, but decided it was more interested in a patch of grass 200 yards away and dove right at it. Of course I wasn’t in the cockpit so clouds might have caused that one. I think my problem was releasing too late. Thanks for the help, gents.

Flying Solo, and codes are set. I may be releasing too late, then. Will experiment some more.

Please verify my TGP/GBU procedures are correct.
Ok, trying to use GBU-12s for CAS and failing miserably.
So, I’ve got the laser in COMBAT mode, and on, obviously. I’ve got the mover painted with a good lock in “Point” mode. I pickle the weapon when the claret is at the top of the “Staple”. I’m at 300kts, and 20K altitude. Misses every time.
However, it is cloudy. So if at any time clouds get in the way, will the weapon always miss? No matter if the laser is still painting the target?
I’m trying to use GBUs instead of Mavericks because I keep getting my arse handed to me by MANPADS. I just can’t seem to do CAS correctly at all.

RE: Is there a way to set the HQ Priority defaults?
I find that when I assign my own flight, I don’t get paired up with a squadron all the way across the map, and I don’t have to form with them. So far at least. Of course, I’ve mainly been fragging DEAD missions. In fact, I’m not sure why that on DEAD flights, HQ seems to always assign me another squadron for 2 flights of 2. Do those Hornet drivers really need that much help? (I kid, my dad was a Navy A-7 pilot)

RE: Is there a way to set the HQ Priority defaults?
I’ve been keeping to Wild Weasel missions along the FLOT. The thing I’m struggling with is dealing with is the AI mission planner being…questionable. While I don’t mind making a few adjustments here and there, I’m tired of having to re-route my flight every time because the mission planner is all wonky. I have resorted (as suggested by the forum here) to tasking my own…and juggling the TOTs and available aircraft. I MAY decide to take my whole squadron away from HQ and run the damn thing myself.

RE: Is there a way to set the HQ Priority defaults?
Well I finished my Balkans Campaign. Kinda Cheated…had it on “recruit” level, and the last day I decided to play Commander and ordered the troops to the locations required to win. Just curious to actually see a campaign finish (never got though a whole one before). I’m bouncing around a bit to see which ones I like the most…in other words, which ones aren’t too hard that I rage-quit after every mission.

Oh wow…thanks for that info. Great community here, for sure!

Oh yeah…really good (and so oblivious that I’m ashamed I hadn’t thought of it) idea.

Is there a way to set the HQ Priority defaults?
I don’t like to get too nitty-gritty into the campaign, but I like to set up the initial priorities to something that makes sense. For instance, why are we bombing depots, but not having any CAS when there are NK tanks streaming through the DMZ? Is there a way to change the starting default settings for the campaign?
I’ve got Mission commander and well, quite frankly it scares me. I can change bases and aircraft no problem, but after that I get nervous about changing anything. Are there any instructions, or tips in the docs that I’m just not seeing regarding letting HQ run the war?

RE: I got spoiled by the GBU-39
The GBU-39 can do it. When there isn’t a bloody mountain in the way. I was well within parameters, even at 20K…I was maybe a bit higher actually due to a Strela in the area I think.

RE: I got spoiled by the GBU-39
Yeah, not making that mistake again. Stupid mountains.
-
RE: I got spoiled by the GBU-39
20K. The site was tucked right behind the mountain. Which doesn’t make much sense from their perspective, either, I guess. So I guess I failed to destroy a rather ineffectual SAM site.

I got spoiled by the GBU-39
Tasked with a DEAD in the Balkans, loaded with 8 GBU-39s. “Piece of Cake” I thought. Pickled them about 20 miles from the target, and headed home knowing that those little guys almost never miss. Almost.
As I cruised on back to base, I decided to watch the carnage with the weapon view. I watched in horror as EVERY SINGLE ONE slammed into the side of a mountain. Looked at the debrief…aaaaand so did my wingie’s. 100% miss for both of us.
Note to self: Check elevation maps when mission planning.

RE: Campaign Steerpoints question
I do occasionally add my own targets, but I try to stay away from the “big-boy table” and just take missions assigned to the Squad. I don’t want to get too bogged down in planning.
Also, does changing the Take-Off Time supposed to adjust the rest of the Steerpoint times, or do I have to change each point manually? Doesn’t seem to work when I try.

RE: Campaign Steerpoints question
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing. I was hoping there’s a setting or something I could try that would stop pairing me with the Navy flights (or any flights far away). No biggie. Thanks for the response. Man, I’d forgotten how involved this Sim is…I’ve missed it.
