I finally found the issue. I was pretty sure whatever the problem was had to do with recent drivers or a windows update. So in Windows update I looked for he last installed item before I posted here about the issue. What I’m found was a program called Nahimic Media which was part of some Asus/Realtek drivers I grabbed from their site.
Turns out, this software is basically a virus and replicates itself in other programs and ends up causing major issues including the issue I was having in BMS, namely “cannot create dsound”.
I tried disabling it in services but no joy. I ended up having to reformat the the computer and start from scratch. As of today I’m flying Falcon again. From my understanding Nahimic is included in a lot of official drivers so beware.
Thanks for all the help!

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
I have uninstalled Falcon again. The last time I uninstalled it I deleted the executable and downloaded a new one. Upon Reinstalling and opening the launcher I noticed the debug box was hi-lighted. I don’t remember that option being enabled by default which means there is a file somewhere on my computer loading previous settings on my new installation. Does anyone know where that file may be so I can delete it?

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I unplugged the reverb from my computer, (both DP and USB C) and tried to fire up Falcon. Again, no joy. I’m at a loss as to why it worked for months and then one day out of the blue it stopped. The only thing I can figure as the cause is maybe a windows update.

@airtex2019 Your help is greatly appreciated. I’ll try disconnecting my HMD tomorrow and see if it gets me in.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 Playing with VB Meeter now but it’s not working either. This sucks lol, oh well.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I just tried to associate Falcon with the headset I want to use. I opened the launcher and went to the volume mixer which is where you would make this change. Falcon doesn’t show up as an app. Even though it is open on my desktop. Windows Sounds, Mozilla, steamtours and Windows Mixed Reality show as apps that I can change but Falcon isn’t there.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@Tumbler31 So I just followed the directions and found a realtec driver needed to be updated along with several others. I did a Windows update which updated several items with the correct drivers. As soon as all was done, I rebooted then booted up Falcon and hit launch… SPLAT lol.
What sucks is everything was working beautifully about 4-5 days ago and then the crashes began out of the blue. Also, I’ve now uninstalled and reinstalled the sim at least four times, on two different mobo and cpu combos with the same issues.
I just wanna fly… is that too much to ask? I’ll even dance for it!

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@Tumbler31 I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’ve changed sound devices from my USB headphones, to on-board sound, to USB 2.0 sound using the Reverb headphones. Crashes every time with the same error.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 This is what it says in xlog.txt at the end.
00:00:00.000] 26272 Error in sound setup, cannot create DSound. Errorcode: -2005401480
So that’s obviously it. That said, I can hear through my headphones for every other app. Not sure what exactly I need to do to fix it.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I typically mean the same as you when I say 3D, meaning clicking fly. However, what I am actually referring to is launching the sim so sorry about that.
The sim crashes every time I launch. VR on or VR off, standard launcher/alternate launcher doesn’t matter, it crashes regardless. I cannot get to the menu screen where I can change graphics, sound, controllers and realism.
Here is the most recent crash text.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@Tumbler31 OK, I just reinstalled and updated to 4.37.2 and still cannot enter 3d. It crashes when I launch. I also did a search for d3d11.dsp and the file does not exist. I’m assuming this is because I haven’t made it into the sim to setup graphics yet? I’ve also updated all my drivers so no issues there.
-
RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful at getting into where I can adjust the graphics. I deleted the d3d11.dsp file, uninstalled the sim and then reinstalled. Still crashing to desktop every time. I bought a new board, cpu and memory yesterday for other reasons and once I get them swapped out I’ll try to launch again and see what happens.

@airtex2019 said in BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers:
@Wicked that crash log is not helpful … need recent crash log from
\Falcon BMS 4.37\User\Logs
but … probably safe bet to delete your d3d11.dsp file, and revisit Setup / Graphics screen settings
Will do, thank you.

RE: Comms issue in flight.
@Snake122 said in Comms issue in flight.:
@b0bl00i that’s normal as of the past few releases as discussed in the Comms manual:
“#5 Tactical (AWACS) check in (not yet implemented in BMS)”…
"… Please note that the following options are not implemented yet:-
Check-In
-
Check-Out"
Check in previously was a bit of a different game mechanism in that it could start the clock rolling on your CAP vultime and check out could get you a higher mission rating if you were Winchester and needed to RTB early. I don’t know if those are still tied to that from the old code or just now not implemented placeholders.
> I would say that channel 5 is useful because you will hear other AI package members outside of your flight’s calls to AWACS.
Agreed. Hearing the other packages calls to AWACS will take your SA to a whole other level over time. You’ll find you’re turning into a bandit, without consciously thinking about it, based on a bullseye call you weren’t really paying attention to lol. If there’s one thing that’s kept me flying Falcon for 24 years now that’s it.

BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
For the last two days BMS will not enter 3D without crashing. Tonight I uninstalled and reinstalled but still the same issues. For the record I fly DCS and BMS with a Reverb G2v2. For DCS I use stock WMR and OpenXR, for BMS, WMR for Steam. I tried getting it to load in 2D but no joy there either. I’ve also tried both launchers.
Lastly, DCS still functions as usual so I don’t think it’s hardware. Here is the event log from the crashes:Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 7/27/2023 11:20:12 PM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: Application Crashing Events Level: Error Keywords: User: DESKTOP-G6OTSP2\Wicked Computer: DESKTOP-G6OTSP2 Description: Faulting application name: Falcon BMS.exe, version: 4.37.0.322, time stamp: 0x63ac0fc4 Faulting module name: Falcon BMS.exe, version: 4.37.0.322, time stamp: 0x63ac0fc4 Exception code: 0x80000003 Fault offset: 0x000000000003b88b Faulting process id: 0x0x1728 Faulting application start time: 0x0x1D9C10ACC6229EA Faulting application path: C:\Falcon BMS 4.37\Bin\x64\Falcon BMS.exe Faulting module path: C:\Falcon BMS 4.37\Bin\x64\Falcon BMS.exe Report Id: 88a348ed-544f-448f-a63f-44b97e3746f2 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" Guid="{a0e9b465-b939-57d7-b27d-95d8e925ff57}" /> <EventID>1000</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>2</Level> <Task>100</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x8000000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2023-07-28T04:20:12.3386956Z" /> <EventRecordID>11674</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="11804" ThreadID="18212" /> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>DESKTOP-G6OTSP2</Computer> <Security UserID="S-1-5-21-2721413402-1443468505-3417935276-1001" /> </System> <EventData> <Data Name="AppName">Falcon BMS.exe</Data> <Data Name="AppVersion">4.37.0.322</Data> <Data Name="AppTimeStamp">63ac0fc4</Data> <Data Name="ModuleName">Falcon BMS.exe</Data> <Data Name="ModuleVersion">4.37.0.322</Data> <Data Name="ModuleTimeStamp">63ac0fc4</Data> <Data Name="ExceptionCode">80000003</Data> <Data Name="FaultingOffset">000000000003b88b</Data> <Data Name="ProcessId">0x1728</Data> <Data Name="ProcessCreationTime">0x1d9c10acc6229ea</Data> <Data Name="AppPath">C:\Falcon BMS 4.37\Bin\x64\Falcon BMS.exe</Data> <Data Name="ModulePath">C:\Falcon BMS 4.37\Bin\x64\Falcon BMS.exe</Data> <Data Name="IntegratorReportId">88a348ed-544f-448f-a63f-44b97e3746f2</Data> <Data Name="PackageFullName"> </Data> <Data Name="PackageRelativeAppId"> </Data> </EventData> </Event>

RE: Comms issue in flight.
@Wicked All is working fine. The problem was not using the right comms menu item with the selected frequency.
Thanks for the help! -
RE: Comms issue in flight.
@Snake122 Comms, I still had issues using the check in channel but Tactical worked like a champ.
When coming back I called tower and he said I’m not in the Queue so I switched to the approach freq and asked for permission to land, crickets. My pilot didn’t say anything nor did the tower. However, I noticed when hitting T to cycle through the options that at the top of the window it said tower for the first 2 presses and then changed to approach on the third press with other options. So, I’m guessing I need to not only be on the right freq but also be on the right tower page when asking for approach, departure, ground and the like,
I know RTFM The last time I flew BMS was 2018 so I’m rusty. Also, the Viper in DCS has dumbed me down a bit lol. That said, can anyone confirm that that was probably the issue?
Thanks for help!
I fixed my Drift C/O switch by assigning it to a switch on my throttle,
I dropped some Rockeye’s again and got some kills as well. -
RE: Comms issue in flight.
@Quasi_Stellar Will check next time I fly that mission, I did figure out why I wasn’t selecting the preset frequencies though. I was using the rocker to change the presets and then hitting enter instead of dobber down to the preset number box and changing it there.
I had other comms issues in a different mission afterward. I called inbound to tower and they came back and told me to call 30 miles out. The second time I called in, silence. I didn’t hear my pilot call in or get a response from the tower.
A couple other issues I had were- My drift C/O switch will not move when clicking on it with left or right mouse click. This is constant now.
- The event list did not record that I dropped 6 Mk20’s in the post flight brief when I visually saw them fall and impact the target. It should have at least recorded a miss. Probably something to do with flying in VR… I’ll keep testing.
I did hear the sunrise call which means I was on the correct freq and in range… weird.

RE: Comms issue in flight.
@SoBad Thanks for the tip. I went through all the steps posted above and as I said, I was able to contact my Wingman with no issues. I was also able to contact tower for approach and landing. It was the AWACS frequencies that seemed to not work AND prevent me from making a call.
Even if I were to manually input an incorrect frequency, I would expect to hear my avatar voice make the radio call. For whatever reason it worked for all but 363.050 “Check In” and 253.675 Tactical. I’ll try again later this evening. -
Comms issue in flight.
I was flying a campaign mission earlier, just a simple HAVCAP and was unable to check in at steerpoint on the check in frequency and unable to contact AWACS tactical. I was using the correct frequencies and verified AWACS was up. The weird thing is when I attempted to check in or get a picture, I did not hear the radio call from my pilot to AWACS and did not receive a reply. However, when I called my wingman to fence, I heard my pilot give the call and got a response.
I wrote down the frequencies from the brief and entered them manually. Another oddity was after I manually input a frequency I could no longer use the presets. I could rocker through them all the way to 20 and see the frequencies but upon pressing enter, it retained the last manually entered frequency.
I’m just getting back into flying BMS so it’s possible I may need to update my comms procedures.
Comments and suggestions welcome.
